For what it's worth, it was sneaky politics, but then again anytime someone mentions politics, the "sneaky" is not usually spoken, it's already presumed.
What has totally gone unnoticed in the consternation over the vote is, the Dems that were missing weren't attending a 9/11 memorial (it is rumored less than 4 dems attended the memorial event), they were downstairs in the Legislative building, meeting about redistricting lines. FYI, discussion of the redistricting issues is specifically forbidden by recent court order that called for new mapping to be done as open and transparent as possible. Meeting in a closed session downstairs while broadcasting you were attending a 9/11 ceremony might be considered the opposite of transparency, eh?
Only a single Democrat was out at a 9/11 memorial. Where were the others? Yet if you read the media stories, they tried to cover up for their absence and claim everyone was there. In fact, Cooper even tried to create a fundraising opportunity over it and inferred the reason why the vote was called is because the reps were with him.
More lies.
It doesn't matter where they were. They were told no vote would be taken. THATS the lie.

It's troubling when we focus on debating the "narrative" instead of just looking at actions. Playing on emotions with references to 9-11 clouds one's judgment. I completely understand it's a dirty game, but where do you draw the line?

That's just it, there is no line in present day politics. Of course, I believe there was never a "line". The advent of instant social media, has negated the professional news reporting and forced everyone to be the "man in the street" with a camera and a venue for publishing on the spot. There is no time to sit back and analyze the event in question before you present it on the 11 o'clock News, only the rush to judgement and to be first with a report.
There is no excuse for the action, BUT, the house was in session, they are expected to be there, there were votes coming, that we know. The votes just came earlier than expected in the day. Good politics, bad politics, matters little, a group got caught with their pants down. Shouldn't happen as much as each side is aware "dirty tricks" are in vogue by the other party according to each of them.

Well said... respect is pretty much gone. Debate has become zinging the other side with cute one liners on Twitter and memes on FB. It's beyond sad and I believe what is most frustrating is that the majority of people seem to be OK with it. Using a super majority to strip the Governor of powers, changing long standing rules/laws, calling a vote because the numbers are "right" in that moment.... the list goes on. We can call it politics (sneaky/dirty), but it just seems to be perpetuating a divisive wedge in society.
Gerrymandering so badly that our representatives look nothing like their constituents is not OK. It was never OK in my opinion and do not buy into this "well, they do it" as an excuse. NC is purple (look at state wide voting), yet is overwhelmingly partisan in the legislature? It is not how it is supposed to work. It is broken. Yet, so many are interested in thumbing their nose at others because "they are in power".
Sorry, but back to my kid's reference... the ability to work with people who disagree with you, the ability to empathize... simple basic christian values when it comes to consideration for others... nobody takes the high road and just looks to gloat. Forget being or acting professional as a politician - that's way too much to ask.
