Any data to support your assertion that Island Air or Mokulele (not Makulele by the way) is creating competitive pressure to hold down airfare?
Yeah, I typoed Mokulele once but got it right other times, so biggie the deal.
I think it's pretty obvious, if you just watch the rates for a while. As you told us a while back your employer gets the bulk of the interisland business via selling the point-to-point connections along with long hops from the mainlands it serves. So it's in no danger of losing market share to a puddle jumper like Mokulele, which is mostly used... I would guess... by budget minded locals.
But Hawaiian is definitely responding to Mokulele and Island Air setting price expectations. I remember seeing that Kona - Maui route I mentioned running $159 on Hawaiian as a regular fare on that 92 mile route, going even higher on heavily booked flights and primetime flights, as it still does, while Mokulele was offering $80 flights standard, and frequently had them on sale at $69. Now looking ahead I see that Hawaiian is putting those same seats on sale for $72 in August, a clear response to Mokulele's lower fares. Would they have done that if there were no competition at all? Don't be silly.

There, I fixed your table to show the actual fares being shown right now on Hawaiian's reservation website for these dates, with their flight numbers. These more than prove my first point about Hawaiian's high everyday fares when you buy without discount, as I had referred to their regular $159 fares, from my last informal survey a year ago, but I was wrong... Hawaiian's regular fares on that route are now actually $204! For a mere 92 mile flight that takes 33 minutes.
*To unwrap the slight of hand with those lowest fares, they're actually code-shares from Empire Airlines, based in Hayden, Idaho dba Ohana by Hawaiian. And the lowest price featured is typically only offered on a single flight out of the whole day. And their planes aren't jets either... but hey, who cares about truth in advertising? Oh, but wait, maybe you should...

Oh - you must mean the sale, starting 8/18, when high season is starting to wind down.......
Let me help you out,
Booking period: Jul 15 – Jul 21, 2014 Travel period: Aug 18 – Nov 20, 2014
Only book those 6 days for the $72 fares, for travel starting 8/18 to 11/20 (why 11/20? Thanksgiving is the next peak).
Yes, exactly, that's the sale that I referred to... why do you think I need help? And why do you think the sale price got pegged at $72 when Mokulele's current sale price is $69? Oh, wait, let me guess... coincidence?

I know you want it because of your new favorite airline you have never flown, but it is called a reaction to seasonal demand.
Here's a special offer I can definitely recommend to you, my first actual recommendation in this thread, since you keep misunderstanding and misstating what I've actually said around here... it's a course called Remedial Reading 101... order today and get half off!
Viper, the reason I have PILOT in my UN is because for over thirty years I was a commercial pilot and IP. Been retired for a while now, just surprised that cost have gone up so much. Besides, when your on the inside of the industry, you get a lot of discounted or free flights. That's almost over with now. I do still get my free flights anywhere in the US and to HI and back, thankfully. What do you know of the cost of helicopter rides on the islands?
