Doe's anyone know how far it is from Hickam AFB to the Hale Koa, and what a taxi ride should cost for two adults? Trying to figure out all of my expenses before hand. Also, don't know if I will be getting my car there or at the hotel yet.
From HNL to Hilton Hawaiian Village it's about $40 by cab. I'd expect it to be more than that from Hale Koa to Hickam. As for the helicopter tours I read the seaplane is much more enjoyable. I've read online that if you're a pilot they will give you controls for a bit after take off which is pretty cool!

It isn't far from the airport to the Hale Koa - it can be a relatively quick ride or painful depending on traffic (although much better lately with most of the H1 repaving/restriping done).
Try Star Taxi, I use them quite a bit, HNL airport if you call ahead is $30 fixed rate to the Hale Koa, they'd probably tack on a few more $$'s from Hickam....
Thanks guys. Appreciate the info. Counting down the days until I get there. Plan on doing a little house hunting to while there. It will be good to get a little stick time again, been too long....lol. Again, thanks guys for the help.
Okay, time for another question of you great people. Is China town a good place to visit and is it safe? How would you recommend going about it? Again, thanks.

I personally don't think it is worth going out of your way for.
The area is fine during daytime. A little safer now in my opinion due to more people with Walmart just opened.
At night, the 2-3 blocks west of Bishop Street downtown is fine. Like anywhere, it isn't hard to see where it gets sketchy.
+1 on whtviper1's comments. If you like shops with all kinds of curious things, China Town can be interesting. Some good places to eat and I always get my Lei's from one of the flower shops there. But yeah, only during the day time. At night the businesses are boarded up or have metal doors rolled down.
