Slow down? You'll find less people/tourists after Labor Day but it never "slows down". Activities aren't seasonal on Oahu. Just crowded and not as crowded.

Most everything you and me remember is gone my friend except ala moana mall remodeled, pearlridge, rainbow drive in, zoo, shell and a few other things but 90% of the stuff we knew is gone sorry. Also don't be surprised if everything is 2 to 3 times crowded then you remember it. Oh Fort De Russy Military Reservation is still there, but those big new years, chinese new years etc celebrations we are accustomed to are also gone. But im sure that like me you will get there and fall in love with Hawai'i again. Have fun my friend.

Thanks guys, had hoped as viper put it, that it was only crowded or maybe less than crowded....lol. Well, two weeks from today I head for Travis and hope to get out later that day. May take a day or two though.

Do they just have fire works on the beach at certain times? Or, do they have them elsewhere two?

You'll have to check on exact times, but fireworks go from the Hilton Hawaiian Village about 745 on Fridays.

Fireworks are at 7:45 at HHV. What kind of plane are you heading out here on? C5, KC-135, KC-10....?

+1 on the fireworks at the Hilton on Friday night...basically right next to the Hale Koa. Bring ear plugs if you want to get super close to the fireworks, they are pretty loud.

Great to hear that guys, may get a chance to see them about three times then. I am not sure what aircraft I will be on, Travis has quite a few different ones coming through. Most likely it will be a C-117 or a C-5.

Don't forget to visit Moanalua Gardens Park in Oahu and visit the gorgeous Hitachi Tree and grounds. Since you like to hike a little.

Thanks HBH. Refresh my aging memory if you will about the Punch Bowel. I think that is where I went to see Buck Owens when he played there back in 65. Boy, anybody's memory would fail that far back....LOL.
