I'm just happy I can get 20 ounce bottles of soda for a $1.50.

And I'm not happy I have to pay for the health costs of poor eating habits of so many Americans, especially in the "freedom loving" parts of America.

I am going to trust the number that says sales are down 40 to 50%. This is based on how much unsold soda I see, particularly the 2 liter bottles, at supermarkets as well as Family Dollar and pizza/steak restaurants in the neighborhood.

The shelves are full, also juice that is subject to the tax is sitting on the shelves.

If it's 100% juice, it's not taxed.

Juice drinks and juice cocktails are taxed.

Liberals are an unhappy lot to begin with ...

I'm not happy I have to pay for the health costs of risky sexual behavior of so many Americans, especially in the "open-minded anything goes" parts of America.

Which parts of the "land of the free" isn't 'freedom loving?'

No, you can't tell other people what to do as long as what they are doing is legal. Drinking soda isn't illegal. It's not the healthiest thing to do but neither is owning a gun, smoking, riding a motorcycle or going through McDonalds. People do those things every day and all of those behaviors have a pretty high risk associated with them.

Much ado about nothing-the soda industry has been rapidly declining for over 10 years-since 2004. It will never return to the growth seen in the 1990's and prior. PepsiCo/CocaCola are taking advantage, using this convenient excuse to lay off workers and raise prices.

I find it interesting they got rid of the exact amount of drivers they "predicted" to layoff. It's literally a sham. It's a stunt to try to prevent other cities and states from following our lead. The report of a decline in sales convinentently occurred on the same day that Seattle announced they were implementing a sugary drink tax.

Ever wonder why you pay through the nose in Philly for car insurance? Do you have posts complaining about paying for the uninsured and reckless drivers? Welcome to the world of insurance. Besides, I would like to dissect your lifestyle to make sure you are not costing anybody. Would you oblige?
