Indeed. This news has been out for a while and I was waiting to see if somebody posts here. I was not holding my breath. The throng here were sure this tax would work so anything that interferes with that narrative shall not be exposed.

It's easier for them to shout people down and bury their heads in the sand than to admit their 'progressive' policies and taxes have been doing more harm than good for Philadelphia for the past sixty years or so.

Tell us one good point you have made? I can give you 3.

1.Just as many teachers and early care assists have been hired for the program as we're laid off from the soda companies.

2. People are drinking less sugar juice. The NE tough guy dad will drive out of their way to waste gas and money to save a few bucks on their kids Powerade. So be it.

3. the proven benefits of bringing children together and trying to instill values into them as early as possible.

To blame modern "progressivism" and the current generation on the industrialized decline of inner city Philadelphia and the subsequent mismanagement of the remaining pieces of the city is in one word, idiotic. Dont try to compare the wage or receipts tax to these sin taxes either. Soda gives people diabetes and is easily avoidable much in the same way Cigarettes give you cancer and are easily avoidable. Filling out a W2 or filing your business revenues and expenses aren't.

Why do you hate the children? You should be out there promoting sugary drinks, not attacking it.

Pfft, if you call raising revenue for city services while reducing consumption of sugary beverages "working", then I guess.

Yep. A win/win.

I support the tax, but it's not strange (or nonsensical) for a regular sugary beverage drinker to start buying in bulk outside the city. Even if you're going an extra ten miles each way (and most won't have to travel that far), that's still less than a gallon of gas.

However you feel about the tax, I hope you're not taking their excuse at face value. Now, if other sugary beverage manufacturers follow their lead, as the article suggests, that would be a great protest tactic. But I think even that looming implication is pure posturing.

... and unprotected gay sex or sex with a drug addict can give you AIDS and is easily avoidable.

Now, tell me how well liberal policies are working for Philadelphia's horrendous school system. Throwing money at a problem never works in real life.

Or, how about people who want their kids in pre-k pay for it themselves?

A note to politicians: Stop trying to dig into the taxpayers pockets for other's responsibilities.
