Not as much fun as tying a thread to a tiny hole in a piece of corn and letting a chicken eat it, and then pulling it back out!

40th wound through the river bottom and was only a couple hundred yards from the east end of the south runway at Sky Harbor. I don't remember a dump being there; not a good idea to have landfills adjacent to airports, due to bird activity. The only landfill I was familiar with was near the BeeLine Highway NE of McDowell.

The thalidomide disaster is one of the most disturbing I can recall in my lifetime. I watched Romper Room often and it's still disturbing.
Sherri Finkbine was known as Miss Sherri on the local Phoenix, Arizona, version of the franchised children's show, Romper Room. The Finkbine Case began in London, England in 1961, when her husband was chaperoning sixty-four high school students on a European tour. He obtained some Thalidomide and carried the remainder home. Finkbine took thirty-six of the pills in the early stages of her pregnancy. Neither she nor her husband was aware, until July 1962, that the pills contained Thalidomide. Never thought of that...lol...but then the only chickens I ever saw were at the Children's section of the Phoenix Zoo.

I loved to watch the kids skateboard and inline skate at this place.
Vans Skatepark, the 37,000 sq ft indoor park opened at Metrocenter Mall in 2001 became Phoenix Skatepark in 2003, was in business until at least 2005, space sold to Sport Chalet in 2006 which opened in 2007
I'm not familiar with the Sport Chalet...is it still in existence?

John C. Lincoln was a wealthy entrepreneur who moved to Phoenix in 1963 and established the hospital for his wife who had tuberculosis--per the man who answered the phone when I called the hospital a moment ago.

Seems like in the 'old days' they made it worth your while shopping at a particular store...the store itself gave out glasses, dishes, pots...seems like we had punch cards or something. And let's not forget trading stamps...they were my favorite.
Do you recall the beautiful glass sets given out by Blakely gas stations? They are worth a pretty penny if in good condition these days.
