I think by mid summer covid be done here if many get vaccinated hopefully by then we can lose the mask get back to normal.
As of today, everyone in our house has gotten both doses. I got my at a Fry's Pharmacy just two miles from our house... very convenient.

Kids under 16 currently cannot be vaccinated, of course (except in trials). They are roughly 20% of the population.

Then there are the remaining categories people... procrastinators, skeptics, conspiracy theorists.

Given those factors herd immunity anytime this summer seems unlikely, but I hope I'm wrong.

I don't have a problem with people who don't get it. That's their choice by summer they will open the vaccine up to under 16 which will mean only a small part of society will be un-vaccinated. My hope is by fall Covid will be in our rear view mirror and we can forget all about it.

I just stopped watching the news and now skip over any COVID-related internet stories. It's amazing how much happier I've become. The extremes on both sides (which are well represented on this forum) are ridiculous. Like MN said, just be smart and stay somewhere in the middle of both sides.

I found a fairly recent article on the status of under-16 trials...

https://www.denverpost.com/2021/03/3...n-kids-get-it/

It estimates that ages 12+ could be vaccinated by start of school in the fall, and younger kids later in 2021. The other wildcard is how easily all the variants of the virus are transmitted via children. The experts really don't know yet. If kids are not good transmitters, the timing of all this is obviously not as important.

Once more, reminding everyone that this is NOT a general Covid discussion thread. You will find those elsewhere on the forum. This thread is Covid in Phoenix, thanks.

We know of a few like the doctor in Florida who had a reaction that blood clotting reaction can happen with any vaccine. It's just the risk you take it's such a small risk that more likely to die from covid then the vaccine.
There hasn't been a single death tied to vaccine, in PHOENIX or otherwise.

"A review of available clinical information including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records revealed no evidence that vaccination contributed to patient deaths."

Agreed 100%. Indirectly, I only know one person who refuses to get the vaccine, and he fits the typical stereotype of a redneck. He thinks we're all being used as Guinea pigs, which is his own right to think and do what he wants. In reality, some of these anti vaxxers act like tough guys on the outside, but they're really wimps & pansies in reality because they're probably scared of the needle more than anything else. If they come down with one of these illnesses, too bad. It's their own doing.

I agree except that these idiots’ refusal will negatively impact us all. As they continue to spread the virus it mutates and eventually builds resistance to our vaccines. Their misguided choices are not self-contained.

I wonder how the snowbirds will affect the mutation of the virus in the phoenix area since so many of them come here from other states during our winter months?

Also, while the vaccines provide great protection, it is not complete protection. People over 85 or so and those with immuno-deficiencies (of which there are many) may not develop sufficient antibodies for protection. A vaccine for the very young will not be approved for over a year. The ignorance and seflish choices could make herd immunity impossible and put these people at risk as covid continues to circulate.
