I think only an idiot would text and drive

But I don't want the government telling you what you can or can't do in your own car

There is nothing unconstitutional about promoting safety and general welfare of the US and its citizens, and this kind of public safety issue definetly falls in that category.

Certainly as long as you aren't on federally funded roadways.

I refuse to stop using my phone while driving... and I'll very well text or email as I'm driving as needed. As long as I don't run over anybody, it is nobody's business what I am doing. Government does not have the right to implement idiotic controls over us all because a few can't handle a little multitasking.

Traffic deaths DECLINED in 2011 just as they have virtually very year for the last 50.

It disgusts me how the modern day Safety Nazis think they can poke their noses in everybody's business.

That's the same argument that can be made to justify druken driving... "as long as I don't crash into anyone, what's the problem?"

The problem is impaired driving, which puts others on the road at risk. Texting and driving is dangerous, and if you do it anyway against the law, I hope you get fined.

Nobody's business? When you ram your F-150 pick-up truck into my family 80 mph while texting, then you are poking your nose into my business, wouldn't you agree? Why should anyone reserve the right to drive under the influence or as in this case, BLIND and put other people's lives into mortal danger?

there is plenty that is wrong with this kind of bill. after all this kind of offense is already covered in just about every state that has inattentive driving on their books.

all the federal law is, is another feelgood law.

why not enforce the laws already on the books and stop making feelgood laws that both republicans and democrats just love.

after all, if it were not for feelgood laws, the federal goverment would be alot smaller.
