And if they reject it "in a landslide" then they'll just go down in history as a bunch of bigots like their segregationist cousins in the deep south back in the 1950s and 60s. In 50 years even Republicans will pretend that they were always for marriage equality.
As the opposition to gay marriage in Maryland is being led by African-Americans I have chuckle at your segregationist reference.
The same phenomenon was noticed last year in the petition drive to overturn the Maryland Dream Act. African-Americans as a whole opposed it in greater percentages than Whites.
Maryland House of Delegates has passed same-sex marriage 71-67. It is pretty much certain to pass the State Senate (passed the Senate last year and died in the House) and will is supported by Gov O'Malley.
Unfortunately, I think that the huge black and catholic popul will overrule the Legislature/governor in their next election. There will be another lawsuit just like in calif. With so many states litigating this issue, it will eventually be writted by the SCOTUS and same sex marriage equality WILL be the law of the land when they rule on it.

Maybe Prop 8 was a referendum that passed a law. This referendum will be to repeal a law. A different animal. Maryland residents have every right to repeal laws passed by their legislatures as long as they are not appropriations.
