One word: music. A lot of music of negativity is found in inner-cities, which promotes violence. For instance, although I have a extremely diverse taste in music, when I drive I typically listen to dumb hip-hop as opposed to intelligent hip-hop. I'm sure most of you haven't heard of Gucci Mane (fairly unintelligent rapper), he is only glorified within the black community in particular because of three things:

1.) He's a confirmed murderer.
2.) He's a confirmed drug dealer, his rank is possibly as high as a drug lord for all we know.
3.) He's crazy; probably mentally insane, seriously.

To the inner-city youth, that type of like style is what they may inspire to have. So to prove that they have it, they kill, sell drugs, etc in order to put fear in others. Of course other elements play a role in this as well, but music definitely plays a huge role in the increased murders among my fellow African-Americans.

Murder in America - WSJ.com

For a race that only makes up about 13% of the US, most of the murders are coming from us. So what I'm saying is negativity, at least over the last few decades, has been glorified.

What do you guys think of what I'm saying? If any of you are racists (yes, there are a few racist people on C-D) please don't comment on this thread.

Don't worry Russel Simmons is on duty. While he's not counting all his money from hip hop he's worried about the little children too.

"Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons called for funding for unarmed peacekeepers in schools during a press conference on City Hall's steps today saying, "when underserved communities are at risk, you're all at risk."
The hip hop mogul joined NYC Council members Leroy Comrie, Ruben Wills, Jumaane Williams and Terrie Williams along with NYC nonprofit Life Camp founder Erica Ford to draw attention to gun violence in the black community where he says the issue is being ignored."

Yeah. Or the music is a symptom and not a cause. If Gucci Mane is what people want then that's what they get.

When that crap started to come out I officially dropped the genre.

I firmly believe that many people are products of their environment (what they see on a regular basis and what they listen to routinely). If one is consistently surrounded by ignorance, more than likely, they will emulate this sort of behavior.

This is why it's so imperative to only surround yourself with positive elements.

Can you tell me why rural blacks kill other rural blacks?

Can you tell me why rural and urban whites kill whites?

Can you tell me why Indians on a reservation murder each other?

I could go on and on.

But yea...Gucci Mane is glorified in the black community. He just got an NAACP Lifetime Achievement award last night.

These threads...LMAO..internet posters that can't rise above burger flipper at work are now experts in sociology and criminality.

I agree, I doubt loading these kids ipods with Bach or Beethoven is going to change their behavior

Don't you think the main reason young men join gangs is because of poverty, lack of opportunity, and the lure of making money in the drug trade, as well as getting a sense of belonging?

I strongly dislike it when people lump all blacks into one category. I think rappers (or thugs) are glorified by low income people, who can relate to the rapper/thug. White collar professionals do not relate with such lifestyles, nor do most aspire to be like a gucci mane or whatever his name is.

The music is obviously a symptom...of what, I really don't know.

Dropped the genre? The stuff that predated the rise of Gucci Mane didn't go anywhere. So if you left the genre based on that, you weren't a head to begin with.
