I'm a young-ish (21 years old) Catholic, although definitely not strictly (I believe in things such as use of contraception and same-sex marriage, etc.), and I quite like Pope Francis from the very little that we've seen so far. I'm hoping that he'll bring about some changes in the Church and reinvigorate it. I truly do wish him all the best. It's about time that we had a Pope from the developing world.
Also, for all the people out there who "don't give a ****" or whatever. That's fine, I honestly don't care what you believe in or don't believe in because it really doesn't matter. But then why come onto this thread about the election of a Pope and say things like, "I don't care......". Like I said, that's cool, but no one cares about your feelings on the topic then. There's really no need to share. So no, just no. I'm just sayin'......
I think he's gonna spark a bunch of End of the World paranoia thanks to a certain random Nostradamus quatrain...
"Not from Spain but from ancient France, Will be elected for the trembling ship He will make a promise to the enemy, Who will cause great plague during his reign."
Pope Francis, born in Argentina (ruled by Spain in the 1500s) from Italian parents who were from what was once part of Charlemagne's empire (as in "Ancient France") to captain a very trembling "ship".
If you send me a crisp $100 bill in the mail I will advise you on how to escape your impending doom.
Looks like the second and third most powerful persons in the world are black and hispanic. Who woulda thought this was possible a mere generation ago?
I wouldn't be so sure of him being Hispanic. His parents were from Italy not Spain. He is only a first generation Argentinan. Not sure what culture he practiced because of the above. I am sure he speaks both Italian and Spanish. Curious to know what language he delivered his speech in.
