This is a question. Don't get your panties in a wad if i don't use terminology you like.
Seems to me that shouldn't i be very concerned as in scared ****less should some one other than me be doing a home defense with a rifle?Years ago as like in the early 70's a friend had a AR-15 that was .223 caliber. He shot it right through a Bridge beam that was very thick from an old torn down bridge.
I am thinking that when someone starts shooting a rifle in housing or apartment areas then a lot of holes can be punched through walls( of people not involved other than living next door). Am i right?

No. It depends on the caliber of the weapon. AR-15's can be chambered to fire a variety of different calibers, from .22 LR all the way up to .50 caliber, including 12-gauge.

It's a 5.56mm round the round from my 8mm mauser K98 is far more dangerous and while the 223 punched a hole, the mauser would have blown the beam in 2, and kept on traveling. The 223 is a toy,.
Yes you are right. A rifle is not the best weapon for home defense because of overpenetration. This is not the best forum to discuss home defense choices, there have been many threads on this topic on other forums, suggest the links at the bottom of this page for starters.
Any handgun you fire indoors will penetrate multiple walls, a 22lr will go through 3 walls before being stopped. No matter what you use for home defense, make sure you hit your target and know what is behind it. You have to remember most interior walls are just 2 pieces of 5/8 dry wall with some paint.
I know a lot of people with lots of guns, including myself, and nobody uses this type of rifle for home defense. Handguns and shotguns is what we use, at least for indoor home defense.
For outdoor defense on a larger property, a rifle of that nature could be useful, although unlikely needed.
My ar's are not for defense, but for fun. They are tons of fun to shoot.

Penetration is not just a function of caliber; it is also a function of loading. There are frangible rounds that are designed to limit penetrations.
BTW, does your concern also extend to police, who now commonly use .223 semi auto rifles? Or is it just limited to people using them for home defense.
What a question. Yes i am concerned about anyone punching rounds through walls.
It's just a question. I'm glad that you are consistent. I often have noticed that gun control advocates argue that a .223 rifle is not useful, necessary, or safe for defense against criminals, while ignoring the fact that it is now one of the most popular firearms among police.
When people need help or protection - they want to see them with GUNS (BIG GUNS with BIG MAGAZINES)!
