Christmas to me is using Pagan traditions to celebrate a false Messiah, but I let you do it.

But your people haven't always shown me the same respect. In the 1990s (not 1950s - 90s), we had a cross burned on our lawn. At various times, we had a rock thrown through a window displaying a menorah, and various other overt forms of violence and discrimination because my parents dared tell my brother and I to be proud of being Jewish. When was the last time you had to think long and hard about if you wanted to display your Christmas tree because you're afraid that's going to make your house a target for religious-based violence and vandalism? Never? Right. So please stop complaining.

The only people who ever "correct" me when I say Happy Holidays are Christians. It's not political pressure making me say it - it's simply a fact. There are many holidays in that period, and Christmas is perhaps the least important to me of those holidays. If I know someone is Christian, only then is "Merry Christmas" appropriate, and only ON Christmas.
Sorry to have to inform you these were not Christians, I know blah, blah I knew someone would say this! Christians don't display hate by burning a Cross. Who in their right love of Jesus would display hate like this and claim they're Christian. Jesus was about authority, not culture or skin color. These people we're and are clearly misguided as many are, you and your family would not experience this from true children of Christ.

You do know crosses have been used for centuries through different cultures at once it was a symbol of life............corruption of it all with two pieces of wood.

Most who say they believe in Christ really don't get this one important versus.......
Jesus said to them. ‘Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?’

I think it's a shame that some hypersensitive insecure folks try to portray any celebrations not totally in line with theirs as a fantasy war on their own. They should cheer up and have a nice hot toddy.

I disagree. If you are not going to celebrate Christmas for the reason why it is a holiday then why even celebrate at all? Good will and family gatherings can be celebrated at any other time of the year.

It isn't even Jesus's birthday. So why celebrate it at all?

Has anyone actually told you that you can't say Merry Christmas?

As I said before, I grew up in an area with a lower % of Christians than most places in this country and I never got any flack for saying Merry Christmas, at work, at school or anywhere else.

As for "What's a Happy Holiday?" Yesterday I wished someone a Happy Halloween. Halloween is a holiday, New Years is a holiday, Thanksgiving is a holiday, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, Hogamany, Boxing Day, CHRISTMAS etc. They are all holidays. "Happy Holidays" is a perfectly fine greeting, not sure why anyone would be offended by it.
Do you use some other generic term instead of Happy Halloween or Happy New Years? What's the difference with Christmas? It should be Merry Christmas as it recognizes what the holiday is for just like Happy Halloween and New Years does.

It is the designated day. Our government has designated all federal non-religious holidays on a Monday. Columbus Day, MLK Day, Veteran's Day, President's Day, etc. What's the big deal?

Yeah. I've never understood why Christians in a country made up by a majority of Christians claim to be persecuted for their beliefs. The best I can figure is that it's an attempt to rally the followers with a rebel spirit "they're all against us"

Anyway, Happy Holidays to all!

I don't get a day off to celebrate non-Christian holidays and I don't use some revisionist terminology to greet those who do. Their celebrations are not a part of my religious beliefs so I just don't say anything but I certainly don't begrudge them from celebrating their holidays and using the terminology that they like.

It is businesses that have promoted Christmas for more than one day. It's all about the money to them.
But you will wish people that you don't know if they celebrate Christmas "Merry Christmas" because you don't recognize any of their holidays? H'ok. So much for politeness...

That's just plain nonsense. It is persecution when the hypocrites allow all other religious celebrations to be called by their true names rather than some generic term.

Are you even paying attention?

First, I asked the direct question of has anyone ever told you that you shouldn't say Merry Christmas?

Second in the same post that you quoted I explained that I do say Merry Christmas.

Third, as has been pointed out several times when people say "Happy Holidays" it's usually a greeting given over a period wherein SEVERAL holidays are celebrated.

As to your point of saying "What's the difference with Christmas?" I'm curious, how would you feel if you were at a store and someone said "Happy Chanukah?"
Would you be offended?

So, all they have to say is "I am not a Christian". Why be offended by it when it is a national holiday also?
