Unfortunately for you, it seems you were born in the wrong country at the wrong time. The "programs" you advocate were probably very popular in pre-war Germany. Maybe you could have run one of those types of programs back then over there.

personal responsibility is somehow "nazi?" taking kids away from abusive parents is "nazi?" kinda failing to see the point you are trying to make. the programs got cut, and will continue to get cut. get over it, deal with it, and move on from it.

Well, you can't turn back time, the past is the past. Lots of people "should have" done lots of things in their lives and didn't. No one is perfect. So you want to punish the children of people who didn't make the choices you think they should have made by depriving them of a chance in life? You know, in order to learn and do well in school, kids need to not be hungry!!

There are so many variables which go into what choices people make and why they make them that it's just plain ridiculous to think that every person is going to make what you think are the "right choices." Suppose someone has a rather low IQ but can still manage to work at very low income jobs their entire lives, do you think that person will retire with a big Social Security check or some type of IRA?? NO, they won't. So don't be ridiculous. Seems your problem is you believe in this "fantasy" that the large majority of people on public assistance are brilliant people who are just lazy and scam the system and life a life of "luxury"......THAT is the biggest lie I've ever heard. I work with people who are poor and receive assistance, and I can tell you that NONE OF THEM live a life of luxury. Why don't you try living on $2 per day.

Why don't you bother to at least read something other than those malicious right wing bloggers and educate yourself about the situation:

"The US Census Bureau reports that the number of Americans suffering significant hardships, such as having utilities cut off, getting evicted, or suffering food shortages, has escalated sharply during the recession. Between 2005 and 2011, nearly 7 million additional people were unable to make a mortgage or rent payment, suggesting that as the nation's last-ditch safety net for people in really dire straits, TANF, is not working. Given that science is now showing just how damaging the stress of poverty is to children and their health and intellectual development, maybe it's finally time for welfare reform to be reformed in a way that gives poor kids a fair shot at a decent future."

Excellent opinion piece..

Are We Doomed to Repeat Europe's Mistakes? - Forbes

Specifically the piece about not feeding the animals because they will become dependent and forget how to take care of themselves. This, unfortunately, is exactly were we are at. Because of an administration that was more concerned about giving health care to a small percentage of the population, giving money to donors in alternative energy markets and generally assuring 8 million Americans would quit looking for work along with 90% of the few jobs being created being part time. Numb Nuts has managed to turn the U.S. Into Europe in 6 short years. Oddly enough not because he planned it but because of his gross incompetency and stupidity...

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.

You take "personal responsibility" to an extreme level, and, yes, it certainly does take on forms of nazi behavior. One has to prove abuse in court in order to take children away from their parents. Having children and receiving food stamps to help feed them is NOT considered abuse in any court in this cournty. However, the "government" making the decision of who is a fit parent based on whether or not they need public assistance in the form of food stamps is indeed nazi behavior/thinking.

Let's see what happens to that House Bill to cut $39 billion from the food stamp program over the next ten years. Let's see what the Senate does about that. And most importantly, let's see what happens in the next elections. Hopefully, the nazi tea party candidates will get kicked out on their butts, and sanity will be restored in our country. And we will continue to be altruistic and understand that with great wealth comes great responsibility toward the less fortunate among us.

no. to everything you just said. it is all incorrect. I said eliminate welfare. that way, the "less fortunate" people would simply have to steal to feed their kids, or starve them. so they would either abuse them, or they'd get put behind bars for stealing. ironic that you can't see the irony in simply marching into the home of a "fortunate" person, taking from them, and giving it to the "less fortunate" by nature of force. I was very "fortunate" that I didn't spend my 20's smoking weed and running up credit card debt. guess I'm just "lucky."

ONLY if there are fish to be caught! No jobs, no work. No fish in the sea, no feeding yourself for a lifetime.

There are 3 applicants for every available job out there these days. NOT ALL 3 will be hired. This idea that people "become lazy" because they are given a tiny, tiny bit of money to keep themselves alive is just absurd.

Here's a different perspective:

The economy is picking up in some parts of the country, but that hasn't translated into any new serious efforts to help those suffering the most hardship. In fact, for those on the lowest rung of the economic ladder, life may be getting even harder. A new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) looks at cash benefits provided under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, commonly known as "welfare." It finds that the value of monthly cash benefits that make up the fragile safety net for the poorest families with children has continued to decline steadily since the program was "reformed" in 1996.

That's just it, the left refuse to believe any of this. Most people do not have a problem helping those truly in need. The problems start, when the ones that are/were truly in need.....do nothing to better their situation. I have countless times been at the grocery store, in line behind someone paying with a food stamp card. Their cart will be loaded with 12 packs of sodas, bags of chips, packages of cookies etc. If and I mean IF that person was truly in need of food - this should be the last thing they buy.

So many of the left want to cry, you just want to stave children.....you have no heart....bla...bla...bla....you hate poor people. This is further from the truth. A helping hand is one thing, stealing from taxpayers is another.
