Kathy Griffin is a D list 'celebrity', not a B list one.
I had no idea who she was. At first, I thought Kathy Lee Gifford, and I thought that such a stunt would be out of character for her. Then I Googled the name and thought "Who the hell is this lady?"
Good to see it was on Trump's radar though. This is a man who clearly cannot be distracted from the issues.
While it was supposed to be a joke by a comedian, it was no laughing matter. I am glad she has apologized as she should have. Things like this are not good. Whether it was Kathy Griffin, Wayne Allyn Root at at Trump rally fantasizing about Hillary's death, Trump adviser and regular rally speaker Al Baldasaro calling for Hillary to be put in front of a firing squad, or Donald Trump's insinuation that gun owners take Hillary out. None of this is acceptable.
I find it fascinating that some would continue to make excuse for Kathy Griffin.
It was no joke or mistake. She deliberately planned, acquired props, and produced this completely reprehensible video. And she only "apologized" once she realized that her blunder was going to hit her right in the pocketbook.
Since she does not work for CNN, they would have to hire first if they want to fire her. r.

From Yahoo: CNN said it is “evaluating” its relationship with Griffin.
“We found what she did disgusting and offensive,” the network said in a statement. “We are pleased to see she has apologized and asked that the photos be taken down. We are evaluating our New Year’s Eve coverage and have made no decisions at this point.”
Griffin’s photo caught the attention of the U.S. Secret Service, which noted that such “threats against [our] protectees receive the highest priority of all of our investigations.”

Regardless of Trump, he's still the sitting President.
But on top of that, it's just a human thing. The guy has a family and kids and friends. But no one is saying anything about free speech here.
But, like others who post things that are hateful, she deserves the consequences of her actions now. She willingly knew what she was doing. She literally made a video about it showing multiple people working on this. Then offers an fake apology when even the left were attacking her for it. She thought even the left would back her up on this one, that's why she did it.
But there's a difference between "Trump is a racist bigot" and "Oh look I'm holding Trump's bloody cutoff head like I'm in ISIS".

I think that apology thing was lame, too. If I was going to do something that I knew would draw that much criticism, I wouldn't apologize for it.
It's not like this was on a whim. She planned it.

I'm not sure why people keep using this excuse. Both were wrong, but...Kathy Griffin is actually a celebrity with influence. Not some random redneck hick in Alabama.
Well, they are similar and they are different.
Similar in that if you're not going to say you're shocked and outraged over people hanging effigies of Obama, you really cannot claim that Kathy Griffin holding up a fake, bloody head is "shocking," you know?
However, celebrities and other people of influence do have to be mindful of their audience and the manner in which they express themselves. There are more consequences likely for people in positions of power. Kind of like why it matters that Trump tweeted a weird typo last night and dozed off to leave it for the entire world to see and it was a huge deal, but if Donny the parking attendant did it, some of his friends mind tease him, or it might go viral, but nobody would really care.
Who you are matters.
