Just ask Continental Airlines, her hometown carrier. For years, Jackson Lee tormented the airline's office in Washington that handles VIP booking. When Congress was in session, her staff would make several reservations early in the week for return flights to Houston. After the House finished its business that week, she would grab whichever flight was most convenient and scrap the others. But this kind of rule-bending put the carrier in a difficult position. Not only was Jackson Lee only paying coach fare (she was routinely bumped up to first class), but Continental was unable to sell the premier seats she didn't use. Meanwhile, airline crew regularly complained about Jackson Lee's rudeness.

Continental managers, however, feared reprisal and saw little they could do. "After medicine, airlines are the most heavily regulated industry in the United States," says a lobbyist for a Texas-based carrier. "Every airline feels they have to kiss up to Congress; they always feel their livelihood is in Congress's hands." But in February 1998, things finally came to a head. On a flight home to Houston, Jackson Lee became enraged when flight attendants failed to produce the seafood special she liked. "Don't you know who I am?" she reportedly thundered. "I'm Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Where is my seafood meal? I know it was ordered!"

That outburst prompted a phone call to Jackson Lee from Rebecca Cox, vice president of Continental's government affairs office in Washington and the wife of California Republican Chris Cox. The message? Straighten up and fly right, or don't fly with us. Cox did not return calls seeking comment, but a member of Jackson Lee's staff who fielded the call remembered Cox saying, "[Jackson Lee] screamed at the top of her lungs at least a minute. She embarrassed the flight attendants and the passengers in first class. And she embarrassed herself." Cox then joked, "We have already given her the Delta Airlines schedule.
A fifteern year old hit piece? That is the best you could do?

This is reverse discrimination. Putting someone out of their seat for a congress woman. How did they know who she was when she booked a seat or got on the plane??, Words must have been exchanged by Lee to let them know who she was and wanted to fly FIRST CLASS bumping some one else out of THEIR SEAT.

Nonsense. Airlines have VIP offices which deal with such people. She probably gets upgraded virtually all the time. She likely buys unrestricted coach tickets and then is upgraded by the airlines.

And they have her account and that of all Congress critters flagged as VIPs. It is standard.

Am I the only person that has read any articles about this. THE WOMAN CANCELLED HER FLIGHT, SHEILA JACKSON-LEE CLAIMED A VACANT FIRST CLASS SEAT. the woman saw who took the vacant seat and the wheels began to turn in her head.

And forgive me for not fake outraging for someone that can afford first class seats with her frequent flyer miles. She's clearly not struggling and she is most likely in the same financial class as Jackson-Lee. She made it home safely.

I am sure if a white republican had taken her seat she wouldn't have said a word.
The "cancelled ticket" Fairy Tale was the 2nd or 3rd story that United put out as an excuse.

Anyone around here ever flown on an Airplane after 9/11? Anyone ever got through TSA Security checkpoints with NO TICKET? United says she "cancelled" her ticket and yet their 1st story when she attempted to Board with her 1st Class Ticket and Seat Assignment in hand - was ..... "you are not even in our System".
She certainly had a VALID Boarding pass when she went through Security, she checked in an hour and a half before her Flight - the LAST leg of her flight to get home after an International Trip.

Really??? then how in Hades did she managed to get in that Boarding line? Whatever fool agent actually did the Dirty Work for Shiela MsEntitled just wiped this poor passenger's trip out of the computer. They didn't even make an attempt to move her to another seat -- they just wiped her out of the computer.

Keep up the Pressure on United Air Lines.
Keep up the Pressure on Ms Entitled Jackson Lee.
Enough of this Garbage by the "elite class" and their enablers.

- You're the only person who believes that a 61 year old Lady (who was using her FF points) & is traveling from Guatamala to Washington DC (during the Holidays) & would cancel the FINAL leg of her flight (while sitting in the freaking stop-over connecting airport, waiting to get on board for her final connection). Now that's a whopper.

- You're the only person who doesn't think that United/Continental (who has unfortunately had to deal with SJL for 20 years) didn't cancel this ladies Final leg (ticket) to shut Ms. SJL up when she was demanding a First Class ticket.

- & you are one of the few people who doesn't think that SLJ is a Racist Pig for playing the Race Card on the very person who she literally booted out of her OWN damn seat.

& Who said the Teacher Lady was "struggling" ?

-"You're not even in our system"=cancelled flight. Then she tried to get back on the flight on the seat she vacated. It's not hard to follow. Keep up. She saw who got her seat and went into victim mode.
-You're creating this scenario where Jackson-Lee somehow got this woman booted out of first class. You have no proof of that. Many of you on these forums are coming up with these government conspiracy theories now but if that was a black person saying that Jess Sessions took their seat would you believe their conspiracy theory? You and I both know the answer.
-You're trying to argue the semantics of what "struggling" is because you have no real argument. Move along with this fallacy mess.

This lady clearly cancelled her flight, saw who claimed the vacated seat and went into victim mode. She can afford to fly enough that she's racked up free first class tickets, she'll be fine and she made it home safely. This is fake outrage.

The woman did not cancel her flight. United cancelled her flight - that's why they wanted to pay her off.
