During the break, Paul Manafort’s lead attorney, Kevin Downing, offered a bit of the defense against charges of failure to report foreign bank accounts.

Essentially, Mr Downing argued that if Mr Manafort had known he was doing something illegal, he would not have been so easy to catch.

“Nobody intending to violate the law would leave the evidence around for his accountant to find it,” Mr Downing said in court.

Really?

manafort's own daughter claimed that he believed he was too smart to get caught and she believed that arrogance would be his downfall (..... smart girl, here we are ).

True, even in writing via e-mail.

Interesting tidbit from the Defense's opening statement yesterday. They claim Manafort was working undercover FOR the FBI.

"Here is what you'll hear. FBI Agent Staci Sullivan interviewed Paul Manafort almost four years ago to the day, 2014. At the time, the FBI was looking at the potential misuse of Ukrainian government funds and working with the government of Ukraine. What you're going to learn is that Paul Manafort voluntarily agreed to go talk to these FBI agents and to Department of Justice attorneys. Not only to discuss his consulting work over in Ukraine, but to provide information about individuals that they were interested in."

We know Rod Rosenstein of the FBI investigated Manafort back in 2014 & cleared him of any wrongdoing on these same charges.

Manafort intends to call RR as his first witness. How will RR explain diving into his finances, banking, lobbying, ties to Ukraine & finding nothing to prosecute him on?

The Defense, also alleges that Manafort told the FBI & DOJ attorneys all about his Cyprus bank accounts, his finances, etc.

IF, and it's just an assertion at this point, but IF it's proven, then the FBI didn't charge him with tax evasion, bank fraud or FARA violations. They didn't even tell him to file with FARA and they trusted him enough to use him as an undercover informant.

No wonder Hollywood talked big about moving to Canada, New Zealand and Australia, but never left.

It's more complicated. I previously worked in Kuwait that didn't tax income and since US did and most countries like UK for example did not, I was one of the few paying taxes but now working in Azerbiajan, everyone has to pay the local tax. Don't worry, my company makes it worthwhile for us.

The judge is just making it easier for Trump to pardon Manafort. Libs will yell, but at this point who cares.

Right, Democrats. That will be why he goes to jail, not his own crimes.

Cognitive dissonance. Look it up.
