Wrong, Congressman Neal, the chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, has provided such a purpose. Neal claims he is investigating the effectiveness of the IRS’s policy of auditing the tax returns of sitting presidents — although that doesn’t quite explain why he is requesting returns including years both before Trump became president and during his presidency.
This does not mean the returns will become public, but they should be turned over to Congress.

You forget, Trump and his supporters think he is above the law, you know, like a dictator.
If someone demanded you release your tax returns online for the whole world can see it would you consider it unreasonable?
But no one would have a problem with you releasing it voluntarily. I believe 99.9% of the world population could care less one way or the other. And only impeach Trump nut cases want it anyway which account for the other .01%.
Remember Trump was elected president without releasing his tax return in 2016.
It is true past presidents since Nixon had released their federal tax returns but they all did it voluntarily. Note the key word above is voluntarily.
It seem since the Trump/Russian collusion has petered out for democrats and they have moved on to another reason to impeach Trump, after that has run its course it will be something else....look for more egg on the face talking heads in the days ahead. Defending Smollett and Ilhan Omar come to mind.
Who can be on a ballot is always of some interest. Notable this year is the number of states that have specifically looked at requiring future presidential candidates to disclose income tax returns in order to be placed on the general election ballot. As of February 20, 2017 legislators in 18 states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia) have introduced bills on this topic.
And now Illinois has been added to this list, so it is 19 states. Note that he won in Arizona, Iowa, Kansas, and Tennessee, so while it is mostly blue states, there are a few red ones that are interested as well.
Voter Registration is an issue in in many states as well.

A newer trend is automatic voter registration, whereby citizens who apply for or renew a driver’s license are automatically registered to vote unless they actively “opt out.” After Oregon enacted automatic registration in 2015, there has been a spike in interest. Six states (Alaska, California, Connecticut, Oregon, Vermont and West Virginia) and the District of Columbia have authorized it, and 89 bills in 32 states have been introduced so far this year.
If the government already has Trump's tax returns, what illegal search or seizure would be taking place?
If there was a problem with Trumps past federal tax returns over the past 10 years I am sure the IRS would have found out by now.
Quote:
IRC Section 6103 generally prohibits the release of tax information by an IRS employee.
Only if an alleged crime has been committed can a tax return be released to authorities.
No crime here... so no reason for Trump release his tax return if he doesn't want to. The democrats are doing nothing but playing partisan politics.
