Laws are made in response to events that happen that point out a need for new laws. The fact that the president of the United States has had questionable financial dealings with hostile foreign entities is what is prompting this proposed change in the law. And it will apply to every candidate going forward, not just Trump.

I, for one, want to know if my president is up to no good with hostile states around the globe. I'm astounded that you don't.

Can't wait until Mueller's report really comes out (that b.s. from Barr is just that)....once the report is read, we'll really know what shenanigans Trumpy has been up to......this will be an exciting week following our government.....this is stuff made for American History books to be read by our ancestors for years like we have about incompetent Andrew Johnson after Lincoln.

Mr. Barr will determine what the Congress and the public get to see. Nothing more.

Yes it is, go look in a mirror, after all those clamoring here to release the taxes would be the same one's opposing the release of taxes if it was Obama's. And i am no Trump fan, i just loath hypocrites.

President Obama released his taxes.

Trump promised to, but now refuses. Why, I wonder?

Nope. Congress will decide.

I can imagine you posting back in the Nixon era that Mitchell would decide.

Mitchell got over 2 yrs for a variety of criminal acts in protecting Nixon.

This is all pretty silly, really. I mean if Law enforcement were to confiscate DFT's returns, then, perhaps they would be violating the 4th A, but no one is taking them. They are asking him to do what he already promised, long ago, that he would happily hand over should he be nominated by the GOP for the job.

I see this is going over your head. The issue isn't income taxes per se, but whether the Constitution enables Congress or any other government body to compel disclosure in this manner. It would be no different if Congress tried to compel production of any other document. That's the point. There is a 4th Amendment that lays out restrictions on the government's police powers.
