Why? At my local Walmart that could mean standing in line for 10 minutes or more.

Most of the time I have already taken 10-15 minutes to get checked out.

Bag checks have never bothered me. For one I seldom shop at Walmart when I am in the States. For another I typically shop smaller grocery stores. The local stores where my house is have been in business longer than most of us have been alive. Passed down or bought out by former employees. They still hire kids to work the registers, stock shelves, etc. The meat departments are second to none and will grind your ground beef to your specifications. They bag your groceries and for the elderly carry them out to the car.

Screw the big box stores. That said a bag check? They do it at most the stores I shop at where I live. This is a big so what issue.

Wal Mart culture is pretty gross, IMO, if you take a look at the "people of Wal mart" photos of those who shop there. Wearing their camo and riding their tractors into the store, buying beer and junk food. I'm proud to not be a part of that red neck culture.
Oh really? I guess it depends where the Walmart is located and the socioeconomic group that shops there. My local Walmart is frequented by a number of engineers, computer scientists, and Navy personnel from the nearby government base. I've never seen anyone wearing camo clothing, although I have seen a lot of Navy and Marine Corps uniforms there, and most of the shoppers seem to be buying "regular" groceries like veggies, baby food, shampoo, and cat/dog food. However, I do see men buying beer and Tostitos at Wegmans.

No. I have other reasons for not joining.

No. As has been pointed out more than once on this thread, in many states, that 'policy' isn't allowed to be a legal requirement.
Well that certainly went in a circle. Maybe someone else could give a shot at actual answers.

In some parts of the country a perp can waltz out of front door of a store with unpaid merch. and the cops wont bother to show up if called, nor will the da prosecute if the perp is actually apprehended.

Now if the perp is known to have an "illegal" substance on them...fire up the chopper and mobilize the SWAT team!
What a great anarchist supporting massive private business surveillance. Private robo cop is next for you guys.

Me too..... if it is a store that checks (my local Wal-mart doesn't). I once got stopped leaving a Wal-mart in Mississippi. I had purchased two 12 packs of Diet Dr. Pepper. When the lady was checking my receipt she started screaming, "She didn't pay for one of these! She didn't pay." I was mortified. As she was screaming at me her associate that had just checked me out, came over, took the receipt from her and said, "yes she did and showed her BOTH items on the receipt." Not one apology. Not one word from crazy lady. I told her, do I look that stupid to just steal one 12 pack... if I was gonna steal from you I'd have at least stolen a carton dumb-a$$"..... Needless I never stepped foot in that Wally World again.....

Costco is a membership where you sign an agreement to the terms of being a member, and they also check everyone's receipt, not just do spot checks. Wal mart is not the same type of business. You don't sign any type of agreement to shop in Wal mart.

Sigh, yes I know that. I'm fairly certain if walmart was charging people just to come through their doors they would find the payroll to check every single receipt too.
WHY does signing a little piece of paper make it suddenly not a violation of your rights, not in a legal sense but in the sense of what someone feels is offensive or not. Why does a receipt check make people 'feel like a criminal' at walmart but not costco, just because of a signature? Both retailers do it for the same exact reason.
Do the people who refuse to stop for a check at walmart also refuse to shop at a membership club on the principle that they're being treated like a criminal because of receipt checks? Please don't say again it's because of the signature, a receipt check is a receipt check, done for loss prevention regardless.

In my experience Walmart is about the same class of people as most supermarkets although some of the customers are lower class and depends on the neighborhood. It's not rednecks or Americans that are the unpleasant eye sore and ear sore in my experience at Walmart. It's the foreigners and illegals.

This thread is about the actions of employees at Walmart.

Walmart isn't a membership store (Sam's club fulfills that role within that corporation).
Walmart does not check everyone. That is where the problem is.

That is true. Maybe people can decide they don't want to pay the price at Walmart. Maybe they decide to borrow the product.
