If I remember correctly those were the first cases in Germany.
No they tracked the genetic strain to the one that was in Germany. BUT did that one come from some place else. They haven't been able to pin point the source.

Really! /s And we have posters here saying "We should have done what (insert name of country) did", "they did it right and we didn't", etc. Everyone is just flying by the seat of their pants on this thing. That does not mean I think the US has done such a hot job on this, just sayin'. I bet many people are criticizing their governments in 20/20 hindsight. Just an observation.

Back then population was very thin and these such individuals were far and few in between, so basically self quarantined by nature rather then by choice. Fast forward 2000 years and we get a bunch of Chinese who believe eating bats will give them some type of super healing and/or mating powers, perhaps precisely determined by the specific consumer and the deficiency they possess. And this time around, we have very dense population, allowing this virus to spread.
Well they're indicating pangolins for this now, not bats.

Mysteriously, there is a lack of information about this for God knows what reason.
Our first case was someone returning from China.

Then you had all the Americans that went to Italy to go skiing.
One in Texas came back from Iran.

Travelers from all over came and went via airlines/cruise ships.

So Wuhan is a big city. Lots of businessmen, travelers, families. Folks may have traveled for business, for tourism or to go see family.

They don't realize they have picked up the virus and they go 'home'.

OR -- Chinese tourists travel everywhere - -have you folks been to Italy -- Every tourist site , massive groups of Chinese tourists.

One person in Denver came from China....and then they passed it to this woman who was in Denver from Canada -- she took it back to Canada.

They say every one person who has it passes it on to three.

One person gets on a cruise ship and 3,000 people BAM exposed. Those people come from all over the world. The first cruise ship identified -- was just that the first cruise ship identified.

People get sick on cruises all the time and it does pass easily throughout the ship. Until the virus was identified as a potential pandemic there was a huge effort to limit its impact.

People are mobile. Someone with no symptoms can infect others. Someone with no symptoms can get on a plane an travel to any country. People go on vacation all over the world and then return home. People work all over the world and then go home.

Highly contagious with an up to 14 day incubation period.

We had/have a lot of "Typhoid Marys" walking around.
