Eight out of 10 taxpayers get their refunds by using Direct Deposit. It is simple, safe and secure. This is the same electronic transfer system used to deposit nearly 98 percent of all Social Security and Veterans Affairs benefits into millions of accounts.
anyone that uses tax software can check, and change, their DD status, using the software. There's also a form, but I didn't see real clarity on when/how it would be processed.

Wow. Just....wow.

This was a great read. Goes into detail about how critical and useful the pandemic team that Trump defunded and disbanded would have been during this pandemic.

And while you read this and shake your head with disgust, remember that most Trump supporters truly believe he's done a good job with handling corona.

I think that people who didn't by giving the government a direct line to an account are the financial equivalent of the citzen who has snatched up level 1 biohazard suits to sit in his apartment thus causing a shortage in health care facilities which must trade out to fresh protective gear.

Both are cases of fear. Will $1000, now overcome a long held fear?

Yes, but it is much much higher because Trump denied the risk of it for so long. Calling it a bad flu and saying it was "their new hoax" has made it worse. Trump has put us in a spot that we needed to course correct and try to flatten the curve rather than being proactive. I think most presidents would have been proactive. And yes, I do think New York would be bad, but most areas would had avoided it had Trump actually took this national security risk seriously. I seem to remember Bush and Obama having plans for SARS and MERS that luckily were never used.

That's the reality. Another reality is that $10 an hour doesn't buy or rent a car.

If an area, even like our fair Florida City (Sarasota) wanted to do things right they would organize transportation for all the "essential" workers.

But the US motto - and especially the Florida Creed - is YOYO MF. The same creed we read here at CD all year long - "lift yourself up by your bootstraps and get another job and keep working, MF"....except now it is slightly modified to "Lift yourself up however you can, it's not my problem, and infect others if you need to because it's simply not economically possible for the Corporation that pays you to let anything else happen".

We'll see how well that works out, but no doubt it is the system many profess belief in.
where I live, the buses are free right now and folks are banding together to get food and whatever PPE they have or can make for the healthcare workers.

first, such posters are not 'the GOP.' second, what you describe is not 'wanting them to die.'

Exactly. People died because of Trump. He falsely said chloroquine was a cure, and a poor man died taking his advice. And I keep asking Trump supporters to list his wins, and because he hasn't done anything good for the country, all they tell me is, "You and your wife would have lost your job anyway." Wow, that's a vote of confidence for the Winner-in-Chief!

This is just pathetic:

South Korea says Trump asked for coronavirus testing kits, offers to send what it can

South Korea’s president said Donald Trump asked South Korea for help with coronavirus testing kits and other equipment, and officials offered to send what they could as the United States struggles to cope with the pandemic.

“Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump made a request to us for the urgent provision of test kits and quarantine products,” Moon said Wednesday during a visit to Seegene Inc., a Seoul-based company that develops diagnostic solutions.

The White House confirmed that the two leaders spoke on Tuesday but did not mention the request.

Guys...if these numbers are even remotely close to being accurate.

Could be a sign of things to come here in the United States. Remember, we are 11-12 days behind Europe....

Doesn't matter how many times you say it, Katrina and Iraq and Afghanistan and the winning of WWII...all different big items, would NOT have been the same under any POTUS.

Given a Dem or Decent POTUS, for example, the US Medical System would have been vastly more reformed by now instead of going the other way.

Surely you realize Trump is gutting the ACA? 7 Million thrown off the insurance rolls so far instead of perhaps 10 million more put on. That's a difference of 17 million.

If you don't know enough about things - please, don't insist "it's all the same". That is a terribly unintellectual argument. No one believes you.

It's like saying every war and battle would have come out the same no matter who the generals and officers and leader were. NOT.
