That won't be his solution. It will be to remove their special protected status and treat them as any other publisher. If they want to editorialise, seems fair don't you think?
It was a stupid and short sighted business decision by them. This potential outcome was completely foreseeable and long overdue.
He said he wanted to close them down. Did the story change? Now he just wants heap government regulations on them?
And all this just because he has a personal issue with them........Trump pretty much defines the words 'corrupt politician'.
Trump wants to be treated differently because he is President. As (ex)leader of the free world, maybe he should be protected from lawsuits. Maybe he should be able to deny Congress their checks and balances power because Article II let's him do whatever he wants.
However, with great power comes great responsibility. If the President wants to leverage social media to spread misinformation, he should be censored. You can't have it both ways.
I'm no Trump fan, but I'm seriously considering it myself. I am currently halfway through a stint in FB jail for 30 days because I made a post mocking Nazis, and dared to include a picture of one. I was sent to lockdown for "promoting hate groups". I protested the ruling, and the post was reinstated by FB after they apologized for the error, but I was left in jail.
It's no secret that Zuckerberg is a huge Trump supporter. Still debating whether I will return or not. I use it as a daytimer to keep up with my various movie projects, but there are other ways to get around that if I need to, less efficient but equally as effective.
I cancelled my FB account the minute I learned they were going public. It was the straw that broke the camel's back kind of thing. I know they all do it (make money off my semi-private information) but for some reason the explicit announcement by FB rubbed me the wrong way. As for Twitter, I always considered it a media platform for people who work in journalism or entertainment. What purpose does it serve for average people, other than tabloid entertainment?

LOL!!!
Suckerberg is a Trump supporter? He claims to be an independent but he is a freaking democrat.

I don't know if he is a huge fan, but he has consistently given more money to GOP than Dems (but he gives to both). Of course pseudo-conservatives will label him liberal unless he is 100% in agreement with everything Trump says, but that's just the way they operate. As for party affiliation, he is registered as independent.
It is better if they let him post, and fact check as necessary.
If they ban him, he wins. That's what he wants.
If they let him post, but freely post the truth with facts to back it, he will have no other recourse than to continue throwing tantrums. If the court upholds a government ability to restrict free speech (if they let him shut them down), we are done as a nation.
And if that occurs, many here on C-D will cheer the court's decision.
