With over 1000 people dying a day, soon projected to be 2000, and hospitals overflowing in so many areas, businesses are suffering anyway. You have to get the virus under control or the economy is screwed.
Paying businesses? Let’s just put everyone out of work, and then pay them. Everyone gets the same government stipend, and thus everyone is “equal.” Smart, motivated, disciplined people who started and ran a business will be made “equal” to dumb, lazy, undisciplined people who barely made it through high school.

Absolutely. There have been millions of human years lost due to shutdowns. Liberals never understand that.

Covid does not discriminate.

Nearly every state has imposed some form of regional restrictions, RIGHT NOW. It’s not a red or blue thing.

Most states have imposedrestrictions on those entering from certain states. Such restrictions are impractical to enforce.

Destabilization comes first; then, the New Normal.

Yay Marxism.

No, Australian States didn't all take an adult approach. One used the crisis for political advantage in election years to convince people that they were keeping them safe (Queensland). One even admitted that he was keeping his border closed so that people couldn't leave and spend their money supporting tourism in other States(Western Australia). This while his Chief Health Officer advised there was no medical/scientific reason for border closures.

The Prime Minister has been pleading with State leaders to open up their States, with the exception of Victoria which was disastrously mismanaged by the left wing Labor Govt leading to 90% of all deaths in Australia being directly attributable to his mishandling of quarantine. Note that the vast majority (greater than 85%) of all deaths there have been aged care residents.

To suggest that people just shut up and went along is also incorrect. Some of these restrictions killed industries and businesses for no scientific reason. People couldn't cross borders for life saving medical treatment or to attend funerals of loved ones. Yes most people did comply, but thats going to happen when Police are fining you thousands of dollars for going to visit your friend.

Australia has also shut down it's international borders except for returning citizens. They have even closed down exiting the country! Enormous liberties have been removed. It is easy to manage the virus under such circumstances with a small population and no one coming or going.

The cost is thousands of lives and businesses destroyed. Mental health issues, spikes in suicide and domestic violence not to mention the enormous national debt accrued for paying hundreds of thousands of people to sit at home. Keep in mind there has been only 907 deaths. The "cure" will prove to be vastly more damaging than the disease.

Sure if your country has a tiny population on a secluded Island and the ability to close your borders, take a look at Australia for guidance.

If you get Covid they tell you self quarantine for 14 really you should be for 17 or 18 days people can not do it for that long. There have been some people quarantined for 14 days they still have Covid for 2 to 4 more days.
And like the article states, in a survey, less than half the people said they would comply. That right there means any length of lockdown won't work. It would have to be 100 % compliant, which would destroy what is left of our economy or nothing.

Yelp seems to be the source for your 60% claim.

Most businesses don’t report data to Yelp. Most business have not closed permanently.

There is no question restaurants have been hard hit due to state and local restrictions. Those able to pivot to outdoor seating ( weather permitting) and carry out have a higher survival rate.

Decisions about schools tend to be made at the local district level. Public schools in my district began the school year 100% virtual. It then went to a hybrid model. Infection rates exploded amongst students and staff. The district returned to all virtual learning.

As of right now, 34 states have issued mandatory masking requirements. Utah is the latest.

The explosion of Covid continues to dominate the news cycle.

Hospitals is several states have exhausted their ability to air lift patients and have no surplus capacity and are, once again, imposing restrictions on non- urgent care.

All of this was very predictable regardless of the election.

In addition to many places struggling to do shutdowns, finding people to work has been tough. Every business owner i know has the same complaint, they can't find people to work.

Here is a local restaurant owner that is spot on, I think.
