1. Gun laws similar to the UK and Italy
2. Social welfare policies similar to the UK and Italy
It's really funny the way the OP rants against liberals in one thread, but in another thread (unwittingly) makes a great case for more liberalism!
We have entire states that are strongly pro-gun and respect the civil rights of their citizens that have VERY low crime rates. Our individual cities with the most restrictive gun laws, like the UK and Italy, have some of the highest. And even those cities only have high murder rates in very limited neighborhoods. Hint-it ain't guns that are the problem.
Vermont has one of the lowest murder rates in the country. On average, it gets about 9-11 murders per year. The problem is the culture of violence that has long permeated Memphis, and to a certain extent Mississippi.
And Switzerland is one of the few "shall issue" countries in terms of getting guns. It has a murder rate lower than Italy or the UK.
Bingo! It’s all about the culture and what is acceptable to them. Why I hate the buzz term “gun violence” invented by our putrid, liberal media. It indicates a gun going around murdering people on its own. So stupid.
Goes to show how much difference disarming the populace can make.
A person can buy a gun in either European country, but it's not nearly as easy there as it is here.
I'm not saying it's bad or good that it's so easy to obtain a firearm here, but the ease contributes to our homicide rate.
It's up to the individual as to whether they think it's bad, good, or indifferent.
Idaho, with some of the most progressive, pro-civil-rights gun laws in the nation (including Constitutional Carry), has a murder rate of 2 per 100,000, and that is down 18% from 2019 (2020 most current data I can find). Memphis-per the OPs number, has a rate of 51 per 100,000. Hint-it's not differing gun laws responsible for the difference. Baltimore greatly restricts the rights of it's citizens, and has a murder rate (per OPs numbers) of 56. I guess maybe you're right-that shows what a difference disarming law abiding members of the populace can make. Criminals like their victims to be disarmed.
Joe biden told us that white nationalists are a greater threat to security than ISIS. 4/28/21
But the 2017 census estimates for Vermont show it's population to be 94% Caucasians. Memphis on the other hand has a Caucasian population of under 30%, according to 2021 data estimates. So clearly the southern Caucasians are over achieving, while the northern whites are certainly slackers.
Despite these 2 outlier examples, I'm glad the president was bold enough to identify the true problem facing the nation. Because the first step in solving the problem is identifying it.
I wasn't even talking about race and you're bringing up White people?

Anyone with a shred of common sense understands it isn't a gun problem. Focusing on firearms is just deflecting away from the root causes of our societal issues.

Memphis has been a rough city from day one. It has a long and documented history of high murder rates. This isn't something that just started. Not just the cultural issues and what is accepted, but for how long. Memphis has been this way for ages.

Something else. I am someone who does alot of historical research. Memphis, not to mention some other southern cities, have deal with very high murder rates for ages. This has been an on-going problem, as far back as the early 20th century and before. During the 1910s, the average homicide rate for Memphis was 47.1 per 100,000. It has reached as high as 89.9 per 100,000. To put this into perspective, St. Louis reached that mark last year. Baltimore, for as high as its murder rates has been lately, has never reached that point. We need to look at back then and today.
