Daughter's disruptive (32 police calls) destructive, blood sucking neighbors held out against eviction until 4 hours before the sheriff showed up. Daughter did get her jollies by seeing they had waited too long and had to move in the pouring rain.

Biden is giving us a look into the future of the US with a UBI. Nobody working, nobody paying.

Let me add everyone was not milking the system. A lot of folk fell on hard times so let’s not accuse everyone of getting over. If you are out of work and most people had kids at home all year so after paying for food and other expenses I get why rent was last.

I don’t get why the govt bailed out everyone except mom and landlords.

I agree, the moratorium allowed a lot of people to abuse the situation respecting their obligations and a lot of them will face consequences they denied exist. There will be a lot of hurt upcoming as the courts start to enforce debts many felt were dismissed by the moratorium.

There are a lot of people that were truly unemployed and did not get unemployment payments. Unemployment insurance covers employees of businesses that pay the insurance premiums. It does not cover employees that work off the books, work for small employers that do not report or do not pay insurance premiums. Small business owners are not employees and are not covered. Independent contractors are not covered by unemployment. Many types of income such as royalties, rents, dividends and other passive income streams that depend on sales or consumption ceased or slowed dramatically during the shut down and were not compensated for by unemployment insurance.

As a result a great many people had little or no income during this time.

No argument there. The financial plan implemented by the government was extremely shortsighted and had far too many holes in it to be effective. There is no “fair” solution except to force the entire economic cycle to accept the hit, top to bottom. Renters pay no rent, landlords pay no mortgage, banks pay no interest, corporations pay no taxes, government pays no benefits. Everyone suffers and makes do the best they can. The whole safety net collapses, people get angry, governments are overthrown and society reorganizes with new goals. But the pain is equally distributed and thus “fair”.

As long as it is easy to stay home and collect money, there is no incentive to work, but let a person have to live on the street, and soon they will say "Eff this" and then they will go back to work. It has to be painful to NOT work, so they need to suffer.

Yes i said it. they need to not be coddled, or else they will never go back to work.

Well, there is an alternative for most of the squatters. It's called "get a job and pay your rent". Many have been squatting and paying no rent for over a year. It's time they get their A$$ in gear and start acting like responsible citizens.

We became landlords because we were frequently transferred and couldn’t always sell without losing our shirt. Right now I have two tenants in arrears. One owes about $5K and has paid something every month and we know the problem stems from childcare issues because of school closing uncertainties. They’ve apologized and I believe them when they say they’ll pay us back.

The other.....grrrr...... we are now up to $17K in arrears. Has not paid one dime since the first moratorium went in effect. Not one. When our property manager has attempted to talk to him first words out are about the moratorium. Now he wants to just pay his August rent and pretend the rest of that back rent doesn’t exist. He thinks he doesn’t have to pay it back. The eviction paperwork is written up and just waiting for July to end. I don’t care if I can’t rent the place for 10 years, he’s moving as soon as I can force his body out of there.

And if he continued the ban on evictions the RW would be crying SOCIALISM! and saying government had no business getting involved.

Not that rents weren't already skyrocketing, but I have seen a significant increase where I live (by significant, I mean 20%). I am covered by my lease, but for new renters, I am seeing it.

I think this is more due to the recent cash-in-hand child tax credits which are significant, but I can only speculate as I am not a landlord.

The government has no business forcing me to personally be the safety net for other families against my will.
