That program was always going to be a problem when it came to an end. It's unfortunate, but some people are going to end up on the short end of the stick. The landlords will also be scr*ewed because they don't get paid.
They haven't been getting paid, so now they have the opportunity to replace non-payers with payers.
Why should any property owner be required to allow anyone to occupy their property without payment in full and on time?
Every state has eviction laws that give tenants the right to notice, a hearing/ trial/ appeal. When all is exhausted, most tenants leave before county sheriffs take action.
Some landlords cut through the red tape and cut their losses when they pay a tenant to move.
They haven't been getting paid, so now they have the opportunity to replace non-payers with payers.
I don't see any downside here for landlords.
Could easily take another year plus for any given eviction to work it’s way through the courts.
Some tenants like some so called owners engage in strategic defaults and manage to occupy their residences without paying rent, principal/ interest and property taxes for protracted periods of time.
Millions are not going to be tossed out this weekend. In the US, eviction requires a hearing and court order and grants the right of appeal. It will take years for cases to work their way through the courts.
bullcrap....eviction takes 15 days in Florida...and non-payment of rent is uncontestable
the moratorium gave tenants a pass on paying....but it did not give landlords a pass on collecting....a landlord can demand all back rent immediately on Aug 1
...if they don't pay that immediately.....the landlord can evict....non-payment of rent is not contestable
How do you define 'benefit to the society'? what about senior people over 85? Should they including your own family members exist?
As a housewife or stay-at-home mum I did feel being offended. I did not make any benefit to the society because I am not working. However, I do have the right to exist and I will exist.
I do support that landlords should not take the responsibility which the country should take care of. They need to maintain a life too. I don't get it how people can be homeless because I know government has a benefit paying half of the rent or something.
If senior people paid into SS, they deserve the monthly payment that they were promised decades ago. I do think 62 is too young, though. I’d put the earliest you could draw would be 65, and you need to be 70 to get the full amount.
As far as any woman who wants to be a stay at home mom, I find that very commendable. I think children benefit greatly with a parent in the home and the other working.
However, if the taxpayers need to pay for mom to stay home and take care of kids that she can’t afford, I have a serious problem with that.
I’m really tired of people not paying their way and then expecting a handout. I have zero problems with an immigrant who wants to come to the US and work and live. But I have a problem when that same immigrant needs money to live in the US.
This is correct. He is asking others to vote for it.
So, let's indeed talk about lying.
When this stupid thing all started, I was very understanding. People lost their jobs through no fault of their own, while half the country praised Gain of Function Fauci as the end all, be all, authority on Covid.
But, my understanding is gone. These people need to pay their damn rent, stop getting a hand out, and go back to work. Here's why:
I hear from both sides. One side says, "they need help, we need to help them, they can't find work", and the other side says, "They need to get off their butts and work."
For a long time, when this all started, I was with those who said, "they need help", because they did, and again, they didn't lose their job because of themselves, they lost it because of our "it's just for 2 weeks" governments across the country.
But, the day before yesterday, I applied at 3 jobs. I did not do that because I need a job, I have work, I did it because I wanted to see if it was difficult to get a job. There are “help wanted” signs everywhere, but maybe they won't pay enough, or maybe they won't give full hours, or maybe they're turning people away, despite the signs.
All 3 jobs that I applied for asked me to come in for an interview yesterday. All 3 jobs were offering as many hours as I wanted (legally, being an employee, not an IC like I am now).
All 3, I got. Before you think it was based on skills or great interview techniques, AND, keep in mind that I'm not in my 20s, which most employers want, nor am I in my 30s, which most employers will still take, allow me to tell you how stupidly easy it was.
*One application didn’t even ask for my work history or references, and they didn’t ask for any of that during the interview.
*One interview was so….dumb. They asked me what I dislike about what I’m doing now, asked me what days I would be willing to work, and the next thing I know, I’m "approved" for the job.
*One, I had ZERO skills doing, have never done it before, and yet I still got hired.
Pay? One is over $18/hr, one is $15/hr with bonuses after 3 weeks training, (the one I have no skills in), and one was $15 PLUS tips.
So, there are jobs out there, have been jobs out there for over 6 months.
It’s time for people to start working again.
We cannot afford to keep paying them to sit at home.
Where I live, the pay is double, almost triple for one job, the minimum wage.
There’s plenty of work available at better wages thanbefore the lockdowns started last year.
Not a one of them required I wear a mask. All were in the service industry. All were "starter" jobs with one paying almost what I make now, but they wouldn’t have a huge monthly gasoline bill, and maintenance on their cars in order to work.
This rental thing needs to end. The hand outs need to end. The ongoing violin of sympathy needs to end. The 'landlords are EVIL' BS needs to end. The lies need to end.
There is no excuse for these people not to be working except that they simply do not want to work. You can walk in, ask for a job, and get one, pretty much right then and there.
You wasted a companies time to apply for jobs where they were hiring to prove they were hiring?
Did you think these companies may have been lying?
Only thing I disagree with is stopping it in July vs end of August.
Why not wait until some people can get their kids back on school? A lot of parents don’t have childcare in the summer since daycare have been thin due to closings.
I have a feeling we're going to see a lot of people who will refuse to abide by eviction orders. They'll have protest marches about how 'unjust' it all is, and stir up the ignorant public about their supposed hardships. Then the dramatic footage of police forcefully removing deadbeats from their housing, all the while screaming and raving for full dramatic effect, so the media can hype about how 'inhumane' this all is.
Sure, there may be some individuals that through no fault of their own including bad injuries and whatnot, can no longer work or seek work, but at the same time, why is that the landlord's accountability or fault?
Yikes, talk about a man with no sympathy. No wonder 50% of Americans ignore him and refuse to get a vaccine, he has yet to make any good decision and has broken every promise. I can see the buyers remorse from Democrats now.
"The Biden administration announced Thursday it will allow a nationwide ban on evictions to expire Saturday, arguing that its hands are tied after the Supreme Court signaled the moratorium would only be extended until the end of the month."
