The lowering of the speed limits should start in Las Vegas/Sinless City. I lived there for 22 years, 45MPH on all the major avenues and if you find someone even driving 50MPH on these wide avenues, you're hallucinating!
So many of these major avenues are 3 lanes in each direction with a lane in the middle. Try crossing one of these streets some time, and see if you can get across all 7 lanes without getting hit!
Build Back Better is all based on Agenda 21, not a conspiracy theory but a real plan that has been in the works for a long time. Getting people out of their cars is a big part of that. Not surprised this is a part of Pete’s big plan.
I don't understand how tax revenue generating speed cams would help sustainable development.
What did I miss?.
Here in the Denver area, there are speed cameras set up randomly and moved around. I believe the threshold is that if you are going more than 10mph over the speed limit, they send you a ticket by mail with a picture of you and your license plate. It's a small fine. The problem is that the local news picked up on the legality (or lack thereof) of a municipality issuing a citation without having an officer serve the ticket. There are also several other factors that make the ticket worthless and unenforceable in Colorado. I have received a couple by mail and shredded them when they came in the mail. I'm not sure if anyone really pays the tickets, as they are merely a revenue scam.
Speed does not always kill. Americans actually drive slow compared to many other developed nations. Most Americans would pee their pants if they had to drive on the highways around Europe. Interestingly, even though European highways have higher speeds and people drive much faster (think the autobahn), their fatality rates are much lower. Unlike the U.S., European drivers are highly trained and obtaining a license is much more difficult. They also seem to be more aware of and more diligently observe common safety measures (they don't clog the passing lane, they tend to use blinkers, and leave more following distance).
If the U.S. wants to improve highway safety, let's start with better driver training and stricter licensing requirements. Not placing silly speed cameras around that may or may not even hold up to legal scrutiny if challenged in court.
The autobahn is designed for speed. How many curves, blind spots and hills does it have? Are curves banked. yadayada?
What the difference is, IMO, is ignorant arrogance. Many American drivers think the road is theirs and to hell with anybody who gets in their way. especially those who pass school buses while the are loading and unloading kids. It is common around here.
We were on highway 10 somewhere in La. and the traffic was bumper to bumper from Lafayette to Mobile. Fools were driving 75MPH on the shoulder. That is not an unusual occurrence. If the only thing keeping people paying attention to driving rules and law is fear of getting a ticket, I'd say those folks have an attitude issue. That means the rest of us do, too.
The thing is though, when cops pull people over for those kinds of things (like broken tail light, or directional flasher, license plate bulb, etc)...its not really about those minor things, they hope to discover more crimes, like an active warrant for the driver or passenger, under the influence, etc.
The broken lights is just the excuse to justify pulling them over.
LEOs inform us that many people pulled over for minor traffic incidents have outstanding warrants. But the cops know that before they stop them if the plates are checked.

Defunding the federal government would end this constant, creeping encroachment. It is NOT their place to be doing any of this. And I'm a person who would love to see lower speed limits and much increased penalties for driving like a moron. But again, it's NOT the place of the federal government. The federal government needs to nearly be put out of business. #DefundTheFeds

I'll vote for that. But getting the feds out of state business will be tough. It would be easier for the states to tell the feds to KMA by not taking their money. States, schools and locals love that federal money.
They can't figure out that by the time their own citizens's tax money gets back to them, the fed agencies and bureaucrat overhead have a lot of it.
