But what I don't get is, who is his target audience? Who is he pandering to?
I wouldn't dream of speaking for black people, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think the majority of them, like the rest of us, are on the bodega owners side here.
So, again, what vote is he trying to get? The criminal vote? Thats a small and unreliable target group. LOL.
I agree with you that the DA's actions are completely political, but man, he couldn't have possibly miscalculated this decision any more if he tried.
Ain't that the truth. All I can come up with is he's pandering to the wokey tokey crowd. Mistakenly thinking they are a lot bigger than they truly are. The average everyday American regardless of their skin color (this is not a racial issue at all) as you say is overwhelmingly on the clerks side here. They're raising hell about this DA in NYC. No jury there is going to convict the guy.
Yep, this lame brain DA grossly miscalculated indeed.

You have to wonder at how these misguided DAs managed to get through law school with such an obvious lack of common sense? Affirmative Action?
As someone else mentioned upthread, the criminal underclass are not typically voters. To whom are these DAs pandering?
The Lady who stabbed the Bodega-worker is not being charged, and she started the whole thing, and stabbed the poor man..........how does that spell fair?!?!?!!?!?
We must pity her, as now she needs a new thief to team up with.
Proportionality, for one. If someone is throwing marshmallows at you, a person is not privileged to shoot the thrower. Immediacy is another. You can't wait to use deadly force.
None of what you mentioned is deadly force. So why use deadly force to defend against such?
Bodegas are tiny. Options are not numerous. No jury will convict, as unlike you, juries understand fully what a tiny NYC bodega is like, with violent customers cornering the employee.
I feel bad that the radical DA is trying him, but it will be the DA's undoing. He will be the next SF style DA-out of a job!
Yes, it's self defense. "Disparity of force" is the issue that justifies the old guy using a knife in his self defense.
These weren't two young guys getting into a scuffle. It was a young, fit man attacking an older, weaker man. The law doesn't require the old man to wait until he has been beaten to within an inch of his life before taking any action in self defense. The "disparity of force" between the two plus the fact that the young man was clearly the attacker and aggressor in the situation justifies the old man utilizing a weapon to defend himself.
Clearly, there would have been no death or harm to anyone if the young man hadn't attacked the old man. The old man used the knife to stop the attack. A clear case of self defense.
That is unless they're in NYC. Even in New York State people have a duty to retreat in the event of a criminal attack.
What a ****** up state!!!
