It sucked to be Irish as well, or Italian or God forbid, Polish.

Blacks were sold by rival black warriors to the French and so it began. They did not have their culture stolen, they brought many interesting things to this country and developed or adapted to a new land. people have been moving around this planet since we were upright so why these two or few groups demand so much attention is beyond me. Who did the American Indians steal this land from? They were not the first inhabitants and faught amongst the different tribes for hunting ground. Move on get over it and get on with it.

very few indians have casinos.

The average indian in the U.S. is poorer than any other american, you should visit a reservation some time especially in south dakota just to see how poor it is.

What ever happened to the job goes to the best qualified for the job and not because of the color of their skin or not belonging to a tribe. Now, the Indians live under their own laws on their land. I had friends apply for jobs at the Hard Rock which is owned by the Seminoles, and it says on the application that a Native American will get first shot over everyone else.

I have lost out on jobs and promotions in the past because there were not enough minorities in that position or in that company. Even though I was able to dance circles around the rest of the field, I had to lose out because of that.

Thank goodness I own my own company now and I make the decision on who gets the job. It will and always will be Whomever is Most Qualified, PERIOD.

I hope you're just being sarcastic. The last time I checked, White Christians were the ones running this nation, having relatively more privilege than anyone else in the nation.

All nations are guilty. What one tribe originally inhabited their country's land?

I think my black brothers got it worse.

Your not out of your mind at all. It's very true that purchase of a slave in the middle 19th century would be in today's dollars the equivalent of around $25000. It's rather obvious that from a business standpoint it would have been in the slaveowner's best interest to not beat, mame, or cause great bodily harm to the slave, but instead to shelter, feed, clothe, and provide good medical care for him.

That doesn't fit into the neatly wrapped perceptions of the modern day Southern-bashers and the 5th generation "victims" and if you really want to hear them scream and kick try enlightening them to fact that some slaves were paid, granted property of their own and actually fought for the Confederacy willingly. Indians had it way worse.

Lets be realistic about things here now. The idea of slaves being "cherished" by slave owners isnt exactly altogether accurate, at least not in the sense of being a common occurrence. Of course it was impractical to mistreat a single slave that one payed an exorbitant amount for. But the reality is that breeding of slaves was not unheard of at the time, and it served to regenerate slave labor for either plowing or profit. Therefore, slaves were replenishable..maybe not extremely dispensable in the literal sense...but they werent always the precious commodities that one would think they were. Unless one was a stud/sire, slaves werent impervious nor protected from illness and harsh conditions or mistreatment. Nor was a concerted effort always made to ensure that they were maintained beyond their breeding or reproductive years.
