my state will probably always be republican thus i don't vote.
I live in Texas and although the state voted for McCain, the margin of victory was about half the percentage it was in 2004 (23% to 11%). It is embarassing for people that live in East Texas and West Texas who are largely uneducated and do not make much money. They vote Republican because they are social conservatives and literally think the Democrats will knock on their door and demand their guns and bibles.
In all of the counties with big cities (Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso) Obama made a clean sweep. All of these counties and cities saw large amounts of Republicans get voted out. The media feeds the solid red state stereotype of Texas, but that is highly exaggerated. Most studies indicate Texas flipping blue within 2-3 Presidential election cycles. If the Democratic party actually pumped money and time into Texas in 2012 it could easily be a battle state. People stay home if they don't think their vote makes a difference.

On the other hand some Democrats really think that every conservative is either a rich CEO or a bible holding wacko.
Don't look too far into the future, because as soon as every red state goes blue, all the blue states will go red...

You really should not be so convinced that party is that all powerful. Massachusetts voted for Reagan...TWICE!
We also have had 3 republican governors in a row.
Massachusetts is considered one of the most democrat states in the union.
I live in Massachusetts. Apparently the political joke of the nation.
I think Illinois may have that title for the moment.
