Actually, it's more the rhetoric of a politician in response to the state elected representation.

Texans have a sense of pride and a sense of community that cannot be compared to that felt by the citizens of any other state. I'll have to admit - I may be a bit biased. But if you ask someone who has lived in Texas for a significant period of time AND who has also lived in other states, 90% of them will tell you the same thing.

We are loyal and being a Texan means far more than being an Ohioan, an Iowan, a Coloradan, etc. Maybe it's the fact that we were once our own country, maybe it's the fact that our flag has the same colors and same basic principle (stripes with a star) as the American flag, maybe it's just something about our culture. My point is that Texans care about each other, we are friendly, and we have a strong sense of loyalty to each other and to our state. We are UNITED. You don't get the same vibe elsewhere.

And this is why I love my state so much and, if push came to shove, I would choose it over my country.

Funny you mentioned global warming....I am actually very supportive of efforts to deal with environmental problems. I think it needs to be a top priority. Maybe this is one of my few more liberal views, I'm not sure. I do think it's become far less of a partisan issue and it will hopefully become even less of one in the future.
But we wasted 8 long years because you voted for a Republican! Thanks for nothing!

Wow, because you're just too good for the South, right? Or, let's just discredit an entire city because of the geographical region in which it sits. Close-minded?

Because I voted for a Republican? No.....

Because of Bush specifically maybe.... But merely because he's a Republican....no.

Republicans have done some damn good things, far better than Democrats in recent times as far as I'm concerned.

Bush has his good qualities, he just got carried away with the war and neglected almost everything else.

Like it or not - our Republican state leaders (who I am pleased to have voted for) have performed stunningly, contrary to the primarily Democratic leaders in your state.

Texas wasn't the only state that was a separate republic although at the moment I can think of only one other state, California [does anyone know if other states were established separate governments besides Texas & California before being invaded by America?

Having pride in one's state is important unless you live in a ****ty state I've always admired that about Texans but not when it comes to doing stupid things [ie. fighting for "creationism" in public schools]. Unfortunately, Texas has the reputation of being a "cowboy" state of John Wayne's bravery but Bush's idiocy It's true.
