Nobody forces people over 65 to be on Medicare. It is totally optional and they can elect to pay for private insurance or join an HMO if they wish. Medicare is just the "public option" for those over 65.

I started paying into the plan in the 1990, so you can understand why I'm extremely pissed. YOU HAVE NEVER PAID YOUR FAIR SHARE AND YOU NEVER WILL. HOWEVER, because I've been taxed for it since i was 16 I've been supporting your pill popping butts for far too long. I'm sick of all the socialism that exist in this country. SICK AND TIRED OF IT! (PARDON THE PUN) I DON"T SMOKE, I DON"T DRINK, AND I DON"T EAT FAST FOOD, SO WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE THAT MADE POOR HEALTH DECISIONS IN THEIR YOUNGER YEARS???? Explain it to me!!!

FICA & SECA Tax Rates

FACTS TRY AND DISPUTE IT!
I worked from 15 to 55, straight through, no breaks for having ungrateful children such as yourself. Worked through high school. Worked through college. Paid for my own college, no government loans. I had no control of the actual amount deducted from my paycheck for medicare. I paid money into Social Security that I will never be eligible to get back. I will eventually be forced into medicare. Not looking forward to it knowing this President thinks my best option is to die when he says so or because I become a burden to others because I can't have surgery that could keep me active, productive and paying taxes.

I REALLY hope your parents move in with you when they become ill or disabled because if the government won't let them have surgery or medicine other than a pill for pain, you deserve the pleasure of caring for them. But if I were them, I'd get rid of that living will or you'll be pulling the plug on them for a broken leg aided abetted by Dear Leader.

I dissagree, AARP is not in ANYBODY's pocket. . . one of the few organizations out there that works for seniors, without regard to political influence! Doesn't mean I always agree with them, I just don't accuse them of being politically motivated!

They run over 20 people or into convenience store windows but how dare we ask them to actually prove they can still drive a car! These people need to be ignored because they are stupid. And not all old people are selfish idiots.
Please, don't even get me started with SOME elderly people who no longer have good eyesight and depth perception (especially depth perception). There have been a few times that my children and I could have been in serious accidents had it not been for me going practically into a ditch to prevent the accident, or having to go into an oncoming lane to prevent it (thank God that there was no one coming on the oncoming lane). Yes, this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine.

We are constantly being told that "driving is a privilege" and it is. There comes a time though that when one's vision and depth perception starts becoming limited that one needs to get off the road. Other people, especially children, deserve the opportunity to grow up and live.

My second son worked at a grocery store about 7 years ago; one of the duties he had was loading grocery bags into the back of vehicles. The procedure was such that you paid for your groceries inside, then the bags were put on a conveyer belt that took them outside. The customer would then drive their car to the pick-up lane in order to to pick up their groceries; loaders would put them in the vehicle.

Some of the elderly drivers had a habit of running OVER the curb and almost hitting the loaders (teen-agers as well as other folks) as they did so. They didn't try to do it on purpose, they just misjudged where the curb was. Again, it has to do with vision and depth perception. I wonder how many people they jeopardized on their way home as they made turns and went into lanes that weren't theirs because they midjudged the depth. I don't mind going slower behind someone that is driving slower (I do not drive fast myself), but when I am forced off the road almost and have to go into a ditch or into an oncoming lane in order to prevent being side-swiped or hit head-on, then I have a problem.

School taxes - same thing. Our local school district passed a 1% income tax levy to support our schools. The seniors turned out in droves as the 1% income tax affects only earned income. Truthfully, I don't mind paying the 1% income tax as it helps ALL the children in our community; it's not all about me. I guess we're NOT the self-proclaimed "greatest generation." Our generation is the "shut up and pay generation."

Disclaimer: MOST of the elderly people that we have in our lives (my personal life) are very sweet, wonderful, and generous people; I am not here to bash ALL elderly people. There have been a few, however, that are just plain downright mean and nasty. The driving thing is serious one though, and I certainly do NOT appreciate other drivers and their families put in danger simply for the fact that one's senses generally diminish as one gets MUCH older. Just as I don't want a drunk person driving, I certainly don't want a person driving that can't see due to diminished vision AND depth-perception problems.

Don't know what driving has to do with the health care issue but what catagory do you think has the most auto accidents?
Teens have 4 times the accidents as any other group.

If it is selfishness on the part of the seniors is it not selfishness also on the part of everyone else favoring someone else pay their health insurance???

Guess that is different to those who want others to pay for their care...or pick up most of the tab.

I find it quite amusing that those so vocal in their desire to have Obamacare want it so as to cut THEIR healthcare costs....no selfishness there.

The Selfishness and Shame of Senior Citizens Protesting Against Public Health Care

Physicians speak out on health care bill
Many say the costly plan won't fix problems

“The bottom line is that doctors don't want socialized medicine — another flawed health care system like Medicare. They don't believe it will lower the costs or improve quality,” Brady said. “Medicare is already going bankrupt and not quality care. It also shifts medical costs onto other paying customers. It needs to be fixed first.”
