If it is like the only other Bucees I have been to, it will be an absolute fiasco. Forget a traffic light, they'll need to lenghthen the decelleration lane by a couple of miles to store all the cars waiting to get off.

There have been traffic signals at both ramps for quite a while. At which exit were you looking?

There are already traffic lights there, but obviously there will be considerable reworking done there.

The initial site plan has essentially two dedicated lanes on Trollingwood-Hawfields flowing into the Buc-ee's from the I-40/85 direction. I don't know whether that will be enough, but they're clearly planning for the vast majority of traffic getting off at that exit to head straight into there.

Update on the Buc-ee's under consideration at I-85/40 Exit 152 in Mebane: The site plan calls for a 75,000-square-foot store with over 600 parking spots and up to 120 gas pumps on a 32-acre tract. I bet when it opens, that parking lot is going to be overflowing. And maybe it will continue to be that way for weeks.

I stopped at the Buc-ee's outside Florence, SC on I-95 this past week. It was packed... heavy snowbird traffic going south. Restrooms were very nice. And aside from what's inside the store, their gas prices were 5 cents a gallon cheaper than the nearby Love's and Pilot.

The location outside Florence, SC has been open for quite a while now and it's still hustling every time we pass through. I don't think any Buc-ee's ever calms down honestly.

If this one is as well planned as the Florence one then I think it will be fine. Yes, they're very busy and happening places. But they seem to be the polar opposite of Chick FIl A's in the traffic planning department. You flow in and out without too much trouble.

If you are headed South, it is easy to get in at the Florence location, as the exit lane almost flows directly into Buc-ees. If you are coming North, it is not so easy. You have to sit at a couple lights and it is really congested.

Not sure I understand the comment about CFA. They are known for how to do a drive-thru. The newish location next to Costco on 401 has the drive-through traffic well isolated from the dine-in parking lot.

Their newer sites are better designed, but their old ones are not, given the traffic volume. Also, they have a tendency to pick sites that are too small, meaning backing traffic out to the public street (Popeye’s may be worse at this.)
