One was recently announced for Rockingham County, VA off I-81 between Harrisonburg and Staunton...could the rumors be confusion with that one?

That's exactly what I told the person, but they insisted it was Rockingham, the town.
I was like fine, ok and walked off...

I'm sure Buc-ee's wants a location in between the I-40/I-85 split in Greensboro and the split in Mebane. That's where the car traffic is highest. But real estate at the Elon-Burlington exits is already developed, and some of the other exits are occupied by Tanger, Pilot, Flying J, and TA creating traffic jams as it is. For Buc-ee's there aren't many good alternatives to the spot they had picked in Efland.

Maybe Buc-ee's could convince the General Assembly to move the Efland tract into Alamance County, which would probably welcome Buc-ee's. Well, I'm just kidding. Or maybe not.

Perhaps they’ll look at exit 152 in Alamance County.

Regarding Rockingham (the city), I don’t think the market and in particular the traffic volume/makeup is what Buc-ees is looking for. They seem to want to be on longer interstates, capturing those that are driving hours, and actually driving “interstate.” Hence the sites identified on 40/85, and the ones that didn’t work out on 95 in NC. I don’t think they get that on I-74 or US 1 in/near Rockingham.

I wonder if they have looked at the Buckhorn Road exit, which is the site of a proposed outlet mall that never happened. Of course, it is also in development-picky Orange County, instead of pro-development Alamance, but that area already has had a bevy of new development and is just over the county line.

Sounds like some people haven't been keeping up with this thread. As discussed a few months ago, Buc-ee's indeed has an application in for a site at exit 152, Trollingwood Hawfields Rd.

So not in Efland after all? We're new to Mebane. I had read about that exit but didn't remember it was Buc-ees.

No, Orange County denied the Efland proposal. This is Buc-ee's second try.

With both a Love's and a Pilot there already, the Trollingwood Hawfields Rd bridge over I-40/85 can get congested. No traffic signals... yet.
