For our bass pond, years ago we dug out a low area on the land. The water comes from an artesian spring. I planted some water lilies. They have multiplied nicely.
I go out & catch bass, at times, cat fish, crappie, blue gill, perch. I keep them alive to put in the pond. I put a couple in each 5 gallon plastic bucket, using an oxygen pump. It worked out well.
I've tried to put a couple Rainbow Trout in. They got some beautiful red colors, they lasted 2 years, but the summer water temps got too warm for them to live.
I get a kick out of going out at night, catching crawdads & frogs, putting them into the 5 gallon buckets, with some water, for transport home.
In the Spring, i catch tadpoles in ditch's along the road, put them into small ponds i have by the bass pond.
Finally! After working on this place for the last 5-1/2 years we’re finally at the point where things are operating properly and repairs/replacements complete. Now we can kind of sit back, live and enjoy our little farm. There’s always plenty of work to do, but now it’s more routine maintenance and adding things that we want rather than necessarily need…. Like the pond and maybe a couple more kids. Lol
Happy birthday, though. One needs to wash down dessert with a drink . . . and Pina Coladas are a good choice.
