In my case, rent isn't just about paying for a place to stay it's also about paying for the ability to leave.
Excellent point. Buying makes sense if you know you're going to be in the same place for more than 3 years. I'm currently renting and I'm glad because I'm planning to move to another city. If I had a house to sell in this market, I'd be worried. When all you have to do is break a lease, that's a huge relief. It makes the job search a lot easier and less stressful.
I'm thinking that anybody who's judging somebody else as immature/a bad catch/not upwardly mobile enough for her based on the fact that he doesn't have a mortgage probably ought to be a homeowner herself, no? Pot, kettle, and all that.
I fully expect to live in my parents house until I'm well in my 30s and maybe even 40s. I'm pretty pumped for it. A house? Screw that. Why would I do that when mama-dukes is perfectly happy doing my laundry and serving me PB&Js without the crust?
Why on earth has someone resurrected a thread by (of all people) TVSG which fell asleep a year ago?
For funsies?
Regarding the OP, where I live real estate is expensive... I think I've only met a handful of people in my area who own their house that are under the age of 40, and even then the houses were usually given to them by parents and whatnot.
When the median house price is half a million dollars, but the average gross wage is around $45000, people have issues buying houses.
If you don't have a house AND porche I'm gonna kick you in the n*ts if you try to hit on me.
