And no, I disagree that atheism is necessarily based on evidence and reason. It could just as easily be based on emotional reactions to events in one's life, the problem of evil argument, or other failures to think logically.
Yes, those would be irrational arguments for atheism. Fortunately I see no one making them.
You really have a problem with the word 'evidence' and what it means.
Your last comment suggest it is you who don't understand what evidence means: You went off the road. You started on the road of 'no evidence', then detoured onto the road of 'having evidence'. I see the sun, I don't need to show evidence that it exist, for you see the sun. Same with love. However, when it comes to god, people ask for evidence because they can't see it.
But you altogether missed the point I am making. That atheists ask for evidence of god, yet there is a long list of things they believe for which no evidence exist. Like I said the big bang, by definition, is based on the belief that law and matter originated out of nothing.
I could go on to enumerate many more but the beliefs are so strongly rooted I will be wasting my time. But I'll just say that the 'evidence' for your beliefs [including the theory of evolution] is as reliable as the hairs used in crime investigations, which was the practice for many years.

I'm just curious here. What does the Big Bang or the science of evolution have to do with whether a person believes in the existence of God or not?
Usually, it is the strongest believers in those theories who deny god. The traditional beliefs (god) are ridiculed and dismissed as myth. But newer beliefs (the big bang and the theory of evolution) are considered facts. They can fancy all they want that they have evidence. All they have is materialistic beliefs; therefore denounce spiritual beliefs.

I'm sorry. That makes no sense at all. The science of evolution is well founded, with more support than most other scientific theories. I still see no relationship between evolution or the Big Bag and whether a person believes in God.
----------
Edit: On second thought, you don't seem to be saying there is any correlation at all. You just seem to be saying that people who understand evolution (it's not whether you believe it exists; just whether you understand it) coincidentally happen to also be people who don't believe in God. Did I get that right?

You are not following what I have said. Let's stay with god vs the big bang.
-On one side we have no evidence of god's existence but it's surrounded by all sort of myths. (I'll insert the definition of myth again because many times it is used interchangeably with meaning a false notion) Myth: an ancient story or set of stories, especially explaining the early history of a group of people or about natural events and facts.
-On the other side you have a series of theories which are supposed to prove that the universe was created out ofnothing; known as the big bang.
You don't see the irony? God created the universe is considered myth, but the universe created out of nothing is considered scientific fact. Only materialists beliefs are considered valid. But beliefs they are.
That should be very simple for even a child to understand, it is astonishing I have to explain it. I am not going to go into evolution as that is a lot more complicated. Let's just say you think it is well founded, I said it is not at all.
