The crime rate he specifically mentions (property) is indeed very high in Seattle. How high? Only slightly less than Oakland. I get the sense that people think Seattle's crime rate is much less than it really is. Chicago it isn't. Nor is it San Diego, a city about twice as large with substantially less crime across the board.

Now that I been away for some time, I realize the major problem with Seattle is its dead sense of humor. Being in the midwest has reminded me that happy humans laugh. I thought a conservative place like IN would be no fun but I was wrong. Life is starting to become fun(ny) again. And the people of color here (Indianapolis), especially the ladies, are so nice and friendly to me. Seattle haters made me forget that I'm very handsome. Moving on.
I can relate to both of you. I'm thinking of leaving Seattle and moving to Chicago. Somehow I feel like it would be a better fit for me...... friendlier less pretentious people and a city with a more urban feel that seattle lacks. I also prefer the 4 seasons climate. It's 4pm right now and already getting dark. I want to jump off a bridge right now.....

FYI the sun set 2 minutes earlier in Chicago than it did in Seattle today. To be fair, it did rise 35 minutes earlier.

And we have daylight until 10:00 p.m. in the summer. It's called living in the North.

Chicago is much colder, windier, brown in the winter, etc. but if heading to Chicago lightens our traffic, let the Chicago migration begin.

That's interesting - I didn't know that Chicago's climate, and the number of its winter daylight hours, were among its assets...

Chicago's at the Eastern edge of its timezone. If you cross over into Indiana (not actually recommended), probably 20 miles past the border, the sun sets an hour later.

And, Seattle is significantly further North.

Yes Indiana is very much stuck on stupid but I don't have regular uncomfortable moments here like I did in Seattle, e.g., being on an elevator with only a white shrew and watch her cram herself in the furthest corner and tightly grip her belongings. They wanted me to feel guilty. They wanted me to believe I was a threat. Haters.

JRittle, I moved to Chicago from Seattle and it's the best thing I ever did. You're completely right that it's a friendlier city and an ACTUAL CITY - Seattle feels more like a big town in retrospect. You can listen to those on here who would love to shoot down the idea with no basis other than their assumptions, or to someone that took the plunge, made the move, and can honestly say it was the best decision in the world.

I was actually pointing out that the sun sets early in Chicago in the winter too, not just here.
