I agree. Seattle's overall population density is only around 7000 people per square mile, but there are many cars per square mile. While having a stroll around the northern half of Seattle, I could not help but to notice the number of cars parked all over the place on driveways and some on front yards.

Reason being is once you get out of the urban core, public transportation is not so hot. Granted, it's better than some cities, but not as good as most.

If they ever finally build that light rail going all the way from the south end to Everett that they've had on the drawing board for years, it may fix things, but for now cars are the easiest way to get around.

Plus there are lots to do. I started out there as a 20-something and loved it. Now in the 40-something with kids we still love it! You might think that overcast gray skies won't bother you; but it probably will more than you think.
Growing up in Oregon and having lived 10+ years in Portland/Vancouver area I will tell you that there is no difference in number of grey days/overcast days and rainy days in Portland than in Seattle. It is absolutely the same weather, except Portland gets hotter in the Summer. Maybe, you were there on a good year.. There are always those years where there is a lot of sunshine for some reason, but it is rare. Actually the Columbia Gorge gets twice the rain that almost anywhere in the Seattle area gets.. Cascade Locks averages about 90inch of rain a year, whereas Portland has the same rain averages as Seattle.

Portland has 4 seasons?? Yeah right.. There are 3 seasons: Rain Season, Rainier Season and Summer.

Catching the rail from SEA to downtown is quite confusing with the lack of signage. I ended up riding that shuttle confused and frustrated. When I figured out where the link station was and trial and error, you have to walk 1/3 mile through an ominous parking garage.

Here's an article describing how inconvenient and confusing it is taking Link from SEA to Seattle.

The sign clearly pointing the direction to the light rail is confusing?

once you walk past the sign, there aren't any signs to direct you to the station.

Not to be depressing, but do any of you deep down regret moving here, after trying really hard to convince yourself that you like it? This whole time I've been forcing myself to say I'm happy here, but I'm starting to finally throw in the towel and realize this whole experience living here has been a disappointment for many reasons and totally out of my expectations and dreams that I had before I moved here. I can't move any time soon, because moving here a year ago was so extremely expensive for me and I signed a year long contract with my current job (I will owe money if I quit early). If there is any advice I would give to someone who is thinking of moving here, it would be to visit SEVERAL times and make every attempt to network (for jobs and for personal life) during those several times, to see if you can make the cut. Few do, from the impressions I've gotten.
