"Desire" ... she called them a desire. I just rewatched that episode last night.

He had likely been there regularly just before he left to go on the Titanic. So there was a lot more memories they shared than those of childhood. Even so, I don't think I would have trouble recognizing childhood friends after many years, even if their faces were unrecognizable.
I agree with the above. Anytime a tv show or film has presented us with a situation of a possible impostor, the suspense is sustained by having the hero or heroine fail to ask a question which only the real person could answer. Think about your own family members and friends...can't you pretty easily come up with a question only that person could answer? It is never "What was the name you gave to the Teddy Bear I carried everywhere when we were five?" Instead the questions invariably are too general or concern knowledge anyone could have obtained or guessed.

You offered speculation as to why Carlisle would have not published Mary's secret, but that speculation is required answers my question....they did leave that hanging.

I never saw Angela Lansbury. All we had was the live DA after party, which I turned off.

It was a real quick public message, like the usual "support your local PBS" thing, but she looked great for her age. I only hope I look so good when I get to be her age.

So...did he ever reveal it? I don't recall any follow up to it apart from Mary confessing the deed to Mathew. What happened to the public scandal which would have arisen? Didn't Carlisle carry out the threat?
That was the Christmas Special in season 2, but no matter ... I remember Mary told Matthew about Parmuk, but I can't remember the degree to which she told him. Matthew knew she was no longer a virgin, but I don't remember if she told him about the Parmuk dying in her bed part of that evening's activities.

The fellow who showed up badly burned and claiming to be Patrick Crowley...he went away on his own, leaving behind a note which said that not being recognized was too much for him, signed "P. Gordon"..leaving the others to wonder if that meant Partrick or Peter (his Canadian name.)
I think the show hinted quite strong enough that he was an imposter, but never did give even a slight hint about how the guy knew so much about Patrick and all the Crawleys.

Looks like there could be a Downton Abbey Movie lined up… we'll see if it comes to fruition.
