Warm and sunny today with 29C. Only 10mm of rain for the month and the landscape is drying out rapidly after another pathetic rainfall total this winter.
Cocktober is colder and cloudier than average here aswell. And certainly no sign of any thunderstorms which were a feature of last year's October.
Days as cold as 16C STILL in the forecast, jesus christ monkey balls I am sick of this ****. This really is a pathetic subarctic climate. Infact, Melbourne is actually an administrative region of Le Dump.
today was supposed to be 23C, didn't even get remotely near it, but what else is new in this polar climate? Some suburbs didn't even exceed 18C for ****'s sake
Lately when they forecast 23 C, we peak at 25-26 C.
When they forecast 26 C we probably peak at 28-30 C.
When they forecast 29+ C.... it really means we are gauranteed 33+ C.
Today was another forecast 30 C day... that ended up exceeding 34 C.
Newcastle sounds like a different planet to Melbourne.
Never knew Melbourne was more like New Zealand. Always thought of Melbourne with someplace like Seattle. Overcast and drizzle all winter long but clears up in the summer.
It improves as spring gets underway, but it is still distinctly cool alot of the time especially at night but there are some warm days in the mix, even if it's only 2 days in a row typically. This October is colder and cloudier than average, only 7 days above 20C so far vs 15 in Oct 2011. Even November sees high temps predominantly under 25C with the odd 1 or 2 days here and there with any real heat
Some people claim that Perffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff takes a long time to warm up in summer due to seasonal lag.... that is bullcrap. Its Octobers are some 2C hotter than Melbourne's Novembers. If anything it is Melbourne that takes forever to warm up with no guarantee of a full week over 20C pretty much until late Nov

Typical Sydney. I've noticed that too. It is mind blowing how much hotter Sydney is than Melbourne. Penrith's average high temp this Cocktober is OVER 5C WARMER than Melbourne and about 4C over the rest of the metro area.

Hot to very hot over much of Western Australia today, 45.1C recorded at Roebourne, 44.0C at Marble Bar while temperatures in the southern inland regions reached 35C+ in many areas, even in Albany the temperature reached 33.1C today which is 15C above average.
Thankfully, since i returned from europe (with VERY hot days in Italy and cool to cold days in Paris and Amsterdam) BA has been behaving well in weather. Of course is warm (specially after coming of 7c max days in amsterdam) but NOT hot, and its also been rainy, wich is refreshing. I didnt want to come to an endless sunny streak that lasts till march. We ve also had some cool days, but most days since i arrived (one week) have been around 20c.
Now, 24.3c, it was sunny but some clouds appeared. I hope the heat doesnt arrive until december, one can dream.

^^ Sounds like you're getting now what Newcastle had back in August.
I'm surprised that lately there's been less difference between
Brisbane vs. Townsville than Brisbane vs. Newcastle, in terms of daytime highs.
I also wish I was further north for more consistent warmth.
SE Queensland since June has looked pretty good, compared to Newcastle.
There certainly has been some hot weather in NSW the last 3 days, thankfully a cool change is coming today.

It is not unusual to record the hottest day of the year during spring - particularly November, due to the volatility of the season.
Of most concern is the lack of rain, I was coming back on the F3 (Sydney-Newcastle Freeway) on Saturday and Sunday, and bushfires are already occurring on the Central Coast.
Most places have recorded <10mm of rain for October so far, and very little forecast in sight.
