Thats not exceptional for April. Ice days have been recorded before.
Infact I recorded a max of -0.5c I think two or three aprils ago.
No you didn't, at least not using a weather station that actually exists outside your imagination and that's anything like properly set up. The lowest high ever recorded in April in Northern Ireland was 0.0C, both times recorded on a mountain and both times in the same weather event decades ago. Stop talking out of your ar$e trying to mislead people into thinking you live in a subarctic climate when we all know you don't.
Buxton Derbyshire holds the UK record for lowest April maximum temperature, I think. It might be March.
According to the Met Office site you jointly hold the English March lowest high record (-3.3C) and October record (1.1C) but no British record. Closest you get was a high of -1.1C in April 1917 in Macclesfield.

My April record (-4°C), March (-10°C — in 2007!), October (a measly 1°C — in 2011 during the snowstorm we got)

Personally I have never come close to recording such values in March and April.
Leeds Bradford recorded a rounded 0C in March 2001 and 3C in April 2012.
Looking further, it did record a max of 2C in April 1992. Actually, it appears maximums of 3C in April at Leeds Bradford aren't that uncommon, they occurred a few times during the 90s. 2C has occurred a few times too, sporadically.

You got a -4C high in April near sea level at 40N?! I assume you're talking about a hundred years ago or something? Even if it was April 1st your sun, presuming there was any that day, would be a similar strength to late-July or something over here - I know I have said it before but I'd love to see what such a cold day under a fairly strong sun feels like. The idea of it sounds so weird. For southern England even a -0.1C high in early March is extremely unusual - Hampstead has had one in the past 60 years.

Leeds-Bradford got two consecutive rounded 0C highs in March 1996 in amongst four other days which never got above 2C - fairly impressive considering they were the 12th and 13th so presumably would have been -1s if they had happened a bit earlier on.

Was April 7, 1982. I experienced a 16? inch snowstorm on April 16-17, felt strange with the long daylight. Melted very quickly afterward. Cold temperatures are rather fleeting in April.
