Okay, Spring 2020 is probably the biggest, most massive fail of a season I have seen. (unless some big pattern change is coming in a week or so, but the weekly CFSv2 ain't showing any of that)
We got teased with some warm-ish temperatures in early March (which are still pretty cool here where I live), after that it was mixed weather but then everything went downhill after the first week of April, just right when the actual warming is supposed to happen. And now this pattern has soon been locked for a month. for a freaking month.
Sure, some areas of the world are warm, but those are places that will get heat anyways. UK and Western Scandinavia are probably the only areas that benefit from this pattern... and of course North-East Europe and NE US, both areas which are desperate for a warm up after a long cold season got the short end of the stick.
Wow, that's impressive. There was an upper level ridge over Siberia and consequently the now-familiar deep trough over North America. Hot Siberia equals cold Chicago.
Temps will be scorching hot here for my last week in the Phoenix area (I leave for Texas on Saturday stay overnight in San Antonio and back in Chicago next Monday). In the meantime this Wednesday could see 105F/41C here.

Maybe the pattern is breaking down for the time being.. Temps are approaching closer to normal for the last week of April and start of May but unfortunately the colder temps will return after this week in the Northeast and Midwest per the ECMWF. Days 10-20 LOOK AWFUL
Ha ha we’ve had April’s in the UK like that. this April though has been consistently very warm, very dry and very sunny - by our standards.
It’s been as good of an April as I can remember. We haven’t quite had the heat that the south has had but it’s still been very pleasant. Those 17/18C days in the sun have still felt pretty warm.
Amazingly, despite the prolonged period of good weather, I don’t think we’ve managed to hit 20C here yet!
And the ECMWF is saying there's more cool temps coming in May. The Euro ensemble is OUTRAGEOUSLY COOL for the Eastern 2/3rds what an absolute failure of yet another spring for the Midwest/Northeast. Pure trash.

I'm wondering if the warmth we're getting this last week will be enough to cancel out the negative anomalies of the first 3 weeks of the month and let us finish average for the month

It easily will because Phoenix is only -0.3F below average as of yesterday
Now this would be nice. 2011 looking like an analog? Strange because April 2011 was exceptionally mild in Chicago while this April is -0.7F below average. The summer of 2011 was very good. Especially July and August.
