Here on the Kuskokwim, they set nets under the ice between two holes to catch white fish.

Nets between two poles... That's a cool idea! Much better than freezing your butt off with a drop line.

Too many, we even made the LA Times. Most of them are nice people, the rest I can't stand.

I just found this in a blog about different parts of Alaska...
Quote:
Fairbanksans like to see things burn—bonfires, especially. Fairbanksans like to see things explode— fireworks, mostly. Fairbanksans like to see things thrown from a height—small rubber ducks, watermelons, computers, etc. Fairbanksans like to bet on things, anything—the ice going out, the dogsled races, the Rubber Duckie Regatta*, you name it. The ideal Fairbanks activity would involve something explosive being set on fire and thrown from a height while on-lookers bet on the outcome.

You should come here during the summer, I have a boat that I could take you on the river to various places...

This was my trip the other summer to Aniak on the Kuskokwim River. Its around 3.5 hours upriver from here.

Butt Mountain.

A trip up the Kwethluk River

Three Step Mountain (1,000ft)

Top of Three Step looking South, about a hour to climb up it on tundra and battling mosquitoes and the Kwethluk River winding south, great rainbow fishing.

Can even stop by one of many fishcamps.
