For the sake of not ruining the OP's post I will keep it short. Are you familiar with these neighborhoods? do you live in Hyde park? I challenge you tonight to go to Cleary square at 7 pm and see "whats shaking" a whole lot of not much.Theres really no where to go. Nothing desirable. Now drive 2 miles over to rozzi square. See what the difference is in people walking, shopping, eating, running errands. Now 2 miles over to W. Rox. See whats happening there? More life. Now another 2 miles to JP. Even more life. Now you can even go 2 miles the other way into dedham square and yet see another example. These days people choose to live in cities for this very reason. If the suburban life is what you seek, there are way cheaper options than HP

I made two small edits for you regarding Roslindale.
JP and Dedham both have a lot of life in the differet but similar ways. I see people in Cleary Square all the time, i think its pretty decent. Lots of stuff I use and my friends use. What i don't see are the expensive stores that for racial (in the Boston area) and historical reason white people are more likely able to afford and black people are not. What I don't see are many white people, as a result. Whit people move where white people are moving, which is usually a lower class white area, then a formerly Asian area and then a formerly Hispanic area. Because Hyde Park is a primarily black area, it gets checked for last.

Ok so Cleary sq is ghetto. We get it. That doesn't mean that every neighborhood in HP is.
