surely depends upon your perspective. Belief in God seems to persist despite meltdowns in religion, which we are pretty obviously experiencing in the West right now. But the characterization of some outbreak of benign atheism runs contrary to history, i think; i mean, even Russia--where that idea meets the most fertile ground--has had a huge resurgence in belief. Sure, being men, they are mostly going to just reestablish some religious corporation, but that is beside the point.
It must be so comforting for some, what with the Great Speaker of all things DudeFish, Just imagine if someone, or the Bible even, should contradict his ramblings, he will, and in his own mind, the power to bring the world to an end, leaving only himself to rule...Hang on, if he was left with himself, his only way out would be to suicide. At least if he takes someone with him, murder would be the rule of the day.
If you actually read his stuff and nonsense, you will find that he, according to he, is the only authority on earth and all others are wrong-dudes.
But then again, he fits in well with Christendom. They are just as Chattery, but less knowledgeable than the great Legend in His Own mind.
