NYC puts itself in an odd position because its prides itself on having everything that every other city has. it's kinda like the saying "A man who lives everywhere lives nowhere".

Cities that come to my mind for various reasons:
Sante Fe NM
Salt Lake City UT
Las Vegas NV
New Orleans LA
Miami FL
Orlando FL
San Francisco CA

Top 3 are in no particular order Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and Salt Lake City. I voted for Other.

it sure is too bad that disco, salsa and hip hop weren't evented in ny and don't classify as ny's own genres of music to meet your criteria, bored at work.
