A couple schools around Colorado that I have attended have been that way for decades.

If you are looking for beauty, small town atmosphere with a strong catholic church family, look into Buena Vista. It may not fit all of your criteria, but it slower paced and won't break your bank account to survive. Plus, Monarch Mountain is 30-40 minutes drive with NO traffic!
There is no shortage on year round activities and it is a tourist trap during the summer. So finding a part time summer seasonal gig won't be an issue Monarch is by far the BEST mountain I have ever had the pleasure of skiing and NEVER crowded.

Enjoy your trip
There are several school districts in CO that have year-round schools at the elementary level in some schools, e.g. Cherry Creek and Douglas County. Also, the urban/suburban districts do not follow the old "farm schedule" of Labor Day to Memorial Day. Several districts start in early August, and virtually all the metro districts will be in session by the end of this week. The schools with 4 day weeks are doing it for financial reasons, not to give kids an extra day off to help on the farm.

Besides, no parent in their right mind would trust a million dollar combine to a ten year old.

Thanks! I chose Colorado because I have friends that live there and basically everyone I know that has been there loves it. My expectations are way to high for my visit tommorow! That never ends good, so I'm crossing my fingers...haha

Thanks for the info. I always felt like teachers benefited from taking a break from children and re-energizing in the summer because it requires so much energy and attention, especially at the elementary level. Year round schools would be different, but maybe they take random breaks throughout the year that would be beneficial.

In Douglas County, all the tracks have ~ 1 mo. off in the summer, plus lots of other time off. It's the same school year as a traditional one, just arranged differently. I don't live in Douglas Co, but most of the people I know who live there like the yr. round schedule.

True! Taking it one step further...the fall colors of New England ( with an abundance of maples ) put the colors of the Blue Ridge to shame. Driving thru Kebler pass yesterday, I noticed a slight hint of yellow to the Aspens. Fall is coming soon!
